TANO Safaris is a dynamic, owner run safari company based in Nairobi, Kenya.

The focus of our services is in private, tailor made itineraries in selected destinations in Eastern Africa; a region that encompasses some of Africa’s most spectacular wildlife viewing areas, cultural heritages and landscapes. We have personally visited most of the areas that we offer and we work hard to ensure that you excite and indulge all of your five senses while on safari with us. A hands-on approach, with a lot of personal touches, is what makes us the preferred safari company.

Aren’t they absolutely stunning? The Giraffes of northern Kenya have such a fantastic and unique pattern and are one of most beautiful animals, I think!

Who needs white-tie events when you can hang out with your white-socked friends? The (easily distinguished by their knee high white colouring on their legs), are one of the three races of giraffes found in Kenya. They are an endangered breed, which fortunately can be seen in the wild at the Lake Nakuru National Park, amongst a handful of other parks and conservancies.
In this photo, the two males lined up side by side may indicate that they were about to have a sparring contest, head-butting the opponent into submission! The older male, darker in colour, has a well worn, well used third “horn”, as compared to the younger male, and that shows that he has indeed been in a few dominance’s battles in the past!

Taking a break in the middle of the day, in the middle of the week; It’s always interesting to see birds seated, as their joints seem to be attached the “wrong way” round! This is a or Spurwing Plover, relaxing at the water’s edge, enjoying the moment.

It’s unusual to find a hippo grazing out in the open, away from the river, in the middle of the day. They usually venture out to graze at night, when it’s cooler, and can often travel several kilometres from a river or lake. Sightings like this also give you a new perspective on just how huge they are!

From this point of view, the giraffe seems to tower over the escarpment in the background, as well as the zebras grazing nearby. Hills and the savannah; the contrasting colours and designs in the animals; the different shades of the vegetation… When out on a , it’s nice to take in all the details, big and small, and to unravel a whole new way to view any scene!
