A winter sun family holiday to Dubai

Get a dose of winter sunshine in the diary with this week-long stay at the gorgeous Jumeirah Zabeel Saray. One of our top family recommendations in Dubai, it has an impressive infinity pool, a kids’ club, an opulent and award-winning spa, and fantastic food. Extraordinary experiences, made in Singapore

A vibrant, utterly intoxicating metropolis but one also blessed with lots of eco-friendly open spaces, Singapore offers something for every type of traveller. If ever there was a destination with ‘something for everyone’, it’s this island-country and city-state with its vast culture, outdoor activities, fabulous food scene, and superb shopping. Spend a few days, a week, or more here, and you’re sure to agree.

For families...
Lots of people associate Singapore with its contemporary architecture, and it’s true that there are some dazzling displays of it here. But this is also a very green place thanks to its many parks, gardens, and nature reserves. Among them are Gardens by the Bay, a unique nature park and greening project with state-of-the-art glasshouses, sci-fi-like Supertrees – vertical gardens illuminated by night – and a fun Children’s Garden delighting and educating younger visitors in equal measure.

Meanwhile, Sentosa Island off Singapore’s southern coast blends beaches and tropical landscapes with attractions, including the world’s largest wind tunnel for indoor skydiving, Southeast Asia’s steepest zip wire, a floating aquapark, a Nature Discovery trail, and one of the largest oceanariums on the planet. Even getting there - by cable car, boardwalk, or monorail - is a thrill for all ages.

Other must-visits with kids are Bird Paradise, the Night Safari (with rare species including Nile hippos and Malayan tapirs in a natural setting), the ArtScience Museum Future World Exhibit, the fun and colourful Museum of Ice Cream, and a ride on a bumboat (an old sea-going barge).

For couples…
As well as Gardens by the Bay, lovers of green spaces and plant life have the huge treat of the UNESCO-listed Singapore Botanic Gardens, which was established in 1859 and includes attraction such as the National Orchid Garden, where you can see the world’s largest orchid display.

And urban exploration doesn’t get any more exciting than in Singapore’s four distinct cultural enclaves: Chinatown, Little India, Kampong Gelam, and Katong-Joo Chiat. Chinatown, Singapore’s largest heritage neighbourhood, brings together cultural treasures, architectural gems, and hip haunts, including the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum. Come here for a weekend brunch and to watch elderly locals playing Chinese chess and checkers.

North of Chinatown, Little India is another lively enclave with brightly painted shophouses, temples, and mosques, and an art trail with murals telling the story of its parrot astrologers, dhobi (washermen), and other labourers.

Singapore also has over 50 Michelin-starred restaurants, so you won’t be short of contenders for a special occasion meal. There’s Odette’s contemporary French cuisine, Burnt Ends for a high-end take on a hip barbeque joint, CUT by Wolfgang Puck (Singapore’s only Michelin-starred steakhouse), and Esora where the Head Chef embraces a deep appreciation of the seasons and only uses ingredients when they are at their peak flavour, to name just a few highlights. The city’s bar scene is something else, too, with lots of rooftop venues for cocktails with a view, and a visit to one of the city’s superb spas is never a bad idea.

For solo travellers...
Singapore is a great place to visit as a solo traveller, with plenty to see and do, including the above, and lots of sociable spaces. Top of our list is a tasting jaunt around the city’s street-food Hawker Centres – listed by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Other top spots are MacRitchie Reservoir Park, with its lush rainforest populated by long-tailed macaques and flying lemurs, and the island of Pulau Ubin, reached by ferry and transporting you back in time to 1960s Singapore with its traditional Kampung villages. The Chek Jawa Wetlands is also not to be missed. In this unique location six major ecosystems – sandy beach, rocky beach, seagrass lagoon, coral rubble, mangroves, and coastal forest – meet.

Walking, cycling, and Vespa sidecar tours are all great ways to take in many of the sights of Singapore, ensuring you don’t miss a thing. Don’t miss the excellent museums and cultural venues in which to immerse yourself in art and history, including the National Gallery of Singapore, with the world’s largest collection of Southeast Asian art. Also, check out the performances at the waterfront Esplanade, many of which are free.

Experience the Arctic Circle in summer with Celebrity Cruises

Combining state-of-the-art tech with stylish décor, innovative dining, and entertainment venues, Celebrity Cruises is one of our favourite ways to see Iceland and the Arctic Circle. We’ve shared one of our favourite upcoming itineraries, taking you along Norway’s fjord-indented coast and across the imaginary line of the Arctic Circle.

12 Nights Norwegian Fjord & Arctic Circle

Sailing dates for 2025: 5th June, 5th July, 7th Aug, and 25th Aug

Southampton | At sea | Stavanger | Olden | Flåm | Arctic Circle (cruising) | Tromsø |

Honningsvag | Arctic Circle (cruising) | At sea | Kristiansand | At sea | Southampton

Discover this remote and sparkling region of the world during the summer, when its mountain peaks are still dusted with snow. For much of the season, the area within the Arctic Circle has 24 hours of daylight, where you can witness the spectacle of the changing colours of the rocks and mountain peaks as the sun skims the horizon.

This is the place to immerse yourself in raw nature, with jagged mountains and rocky islets dating from the last Ice Age; some are dotted with a fishing hut or a summerhouse, but most are uninhabited. Over nearly two weeks, you’ll also get plenty of opportunity to marvel at magical wildlife, including jaunty puffins, diving cormorants, sea eagles, and formations of eider ducks. Fantastic birdlife aside, keep your eyes open for pilot, minke, and humpback whales, dolphins and orcas, and harbour, and gray seals.

You’ll also get to spy the Polar Circle Globe on Vikingen Island – marking the spot where you officially cross into the Arctic – and explore, among other gorgeous places, the Norwegian town of Flåm.

The offer is subject to availability. To book your Celebrity Cruise to the Norwegian Fjord & the Arctic Circle, get in touch with me today.

Why Spain should be your next choice as a Ski destination -

⛷ Spain is the second most mountainous country in Europe
⛷ Days are bright and sunny in the middle of winter
⛷ Its Perfect for Beginner's & Experienced Skiers
⛷ In the Sierra Nevada you can enjoy the slopes in the morning and, within an hour, take a dip in the sea on the Costa Tropical during the long spring afternoons
⛷ There are up to 33 ski resorts throughout the country with first class facilities, specialised instructors and a complete schedule of après-ski activities.

Some of the best known and most skiable are Formigal (in the Aragonese Pyrenees), Baqueira Beret (in the Catalan Pyrenees) and Sierra Nevada (in Andalusia and very close to the sea). You also have other options such as the Madrid SnowZone, the only snow-covered slope in Spain so you can slide down slopes at any time of the year.

Baqueira ski season generally runs from December to April and you can enjoy the snow in Formigal between November and April, while Sierra Nevada’s starts in November and closes in May.

Why Malta is the perfect destination for every type of traveller?

Once seen as a place for retirees, today Malta and its sister islands are stylish, lively, and brilliant for every kind of traveller – from romantic weekenders and multi-generational family holidays to solo travellers. The diminutive size of these islands makes them a great choice for those concerned about sustainability, as there is no need to travel vast distances to enjoy a wide range of experiences.

For romance…

Less than three and a half hours by plane from London, Malta is perfect for short breaks while giving you the feeling of being somewhere a bit more exotic. For couples, it doesn’t get more romantic than watching the sunset from the picturesque and serene Dingli Cliffs, the highest point in Malta. We also recommend taking a private boat tour of the coasts of Malta, Gozo, and Comino, to explore hidden caves and go snorkelling in the crystal blue sea.
In Malta, remote Ghajn Tuffieha Bay on the north-west coast is a must visit for some alone time. With its reddish-golden sand, it’s a quieter alternative to more popular and often crowded beaches. We also love St Peter’s Pool, a natural rock pool in Delimara for secluded swimming and sunbathing. For history-loving couples, the UNESCO-listed ancient Hypogeum of Ħal-Saflieni, a mysterious underground burial chamber, shouldn’t be missed, nor should the old capital, Mdina, at night, when lit by candles. And don’t forget to visit the ‘Love Bench’ in Valletta, with views over the Grand Harbour.

Neighbouring Gozo is wonderful for romantic walks along the cliffs or through lovely countryside. Don’t miss Xlendi, a fishing village on a gorgeous bay, which is ideal for an intimate seaside dinner. There are also dive sites here suitable for all levels. Malta also has six Michelin-starred restaurants for those special date nights, while local wineries offer tastings accompanied by vineyard views.

For families…

Kids love Malta’s thrilling history involving the Knights of St. John – delve into their history at the Inquisitor’s Palace in Birgu or Fort St Elmo in Valletta. The ancient walled capital is bought to life in the Mdina Experience, while the Ggantija Temples enchant kids by being even older than the pyramids of Egypt.

Explore The Three Cities of Malta (Vittoriosa, Cospicua, and Senglea) as a family, travelling there by traditional djhajsa (water-taxi) from Valletta. In Valletta itself, the St John’s Co-Cathedral captivates older children and adults that’s to its impressive Baroque frescos, intricate marble-inlaid tombstones, and ornate ceilings.

Gozo is just as perfect for outdoor activities, including family hikes and bike rides. Head to Dwejra Bay for boat trips to the Blue Hole and Fungus Rock, then learn about Gozitan life and culture at the Ta’Kola Windmill folklore museum.

For groups of friends…

Like Malta, Gozo oozes history. Its enigmatic, UNESCO-listed Ggantija Temples are one of the world’s oldest free-standing structures, while the Ta’Pinu Basilica in tranquil surroundings is ideal for reflection and togetherness. For something more lively, traditional Gozitan festivals such as the feast of Santa Marija in mid-August often feature music, dance, and fireworks.

Meanwhile, group outdoor adventures include snorkelling, sea kayaking, and paddleboarding. Afterwards, refuel with a seafood lunch by the harbour in the fishing village of Marsaxlokk, known for its colourful boats and Sunday fish market. If you and your friends are Game of Thrones fans, you will be delighted by a tour of the show’s filming locations, and there’s also the National Aquarium and Popeye Village which acted as the film set of the 1980 musical production ‘Popeye’.

Malta and Gozo are also great for dining out. Don’t miss pastizzi (savoury pastries), rabbit stew (fenek), and the wine bars of Valletta which are sociable spots for local vintages. There’s lively nightlife on offer too, especially Paceville (a district in St Julian’s) on Malta or Gozo’s Xlendi with its seafront bars.

Meeting Santa, Snow mobiling, Husky & Reindeer rides, Northern Lights - Finnish Lapland in Winter!

Explore Finland like never before on this journey through snow-covered Lapland, a magical place of pristine Arctic landscapes and snow-dusted woodlands. In this winter wonderland, the cold air is cut only by the sound of rushing rivers and panting huskies as they prepare to rush across this impossibly vast, white wilderness.
Strap on your hiking boots and crunch a path through Finland’s spectacular taigas, get cosy with the locals over a glass of salmari and experience the rush of a real dog-sled.
From the docks of Helsinki to remote Yllastunturi and Santa’s workshop in Rovaniemi – witness a beautiful part of the world where Christmas feels always close. Learn how people in the North cope with extreme temperatures. You may even find your inner Finn enjoying the solitude while in pure pristine nature.

Why you'll love this trip

Be pulled across the landscape at high speed on the back of a dog sled. These incredible huskies are doing what they love most – making a lot of noise before rushing along sprawling trails

Visit a local Finnish family, who will guide you through their world and lifestyle. You will be shown their skills in reindeer herding with the option to get close and personal with some of the animals on the farm

The aurora borealis is the best lightshow on Earth, and this trip is your ticket. Stay up late to see the northern sky dance with green light (subject to weather conditions)

Explore Helsinki, then travel on the famous 'Santa Claus Express' overnight train all the way from the cosmopolitan Finnish capital through the frozen Northern wilderness to Rovaniemi

13/11/2023

'It's the most wonderful time of the year... to visit a European Christmas market! 🎄 What better way to start the festivities than with a trip to a new city? From the Old Town Square in Prague to Princes Street Gardens in Edinburgh, My mini-guide to Europe's Best Christmas Markets has something for everyone! ✨

One of the best things about late November and December is getting into the festive spirit, and we can’t think of a better way to embrace the season than shopping for unique Christmas gifts on a European city break, somewhere with a fabulous festive market. We’ve chosen our must-visit Europe Christmas markets for 2023, with some continuing into early January if you want to keep the festive feels going.

Berlin, November 27th to December 31st 2023
Normally on the Gendarmenmarkt, but held on Bebelplatz this year between the Berlin State Opera and St. Hedwig's Cathedral, WeihnachtsZauber is our favourite among Berlin’s Christmas markets. We rate it for its ambiance and its tented artisan village, with local wood carvers and other craftspeople showing off their skills. There are also bewitching performances by jugglers, fire eaters, and musicians, and traditional German dishes served in a heated restaurant area. Other top sights to see in Berlin are Museum Island, the Brandenburg Gate, and Checkpoint Charlie.

Kraków, November 24th 2023 to January 1st 2024
This southern Polish city oozes character all year round, with its well-preserved medieval core and Jewish Quarter to explore. But it’s especially charming at this time of year when its main square, Rynek Główny, is taken over by market stalls, street performances, folklore shows, and live regional music. Sample Polish treats such as Grzaniec (local mulled wine) and crispy pork knuckle, and don’t miss the famous Christmas Crib Contest dating back to the early 19th century.

Prague, December 2nd 2023 to January 6th 2024
Of all the Czech capital’s Christmas markets, the one in the Old Town Square stands out for its spectacular cathedral views. As well as snapping up local crafts, you can feast on national specialties such as roast pork, gingerbread, hot mead, and Trdelník (a kind of cake wrapped around a stick, topped with sugar and walnuts) while listening to carols and other live music. The castle, cathedral, and Charles Bridge are also unmissable.

Vienna, November 11th to December 26th 2023
The Austrian capital has several Christmas markets, the best of which is the traditional ‘Vienna Magic of Advent’ event in City Hall Square, accessed via a candlelit archway. Here, you will also find the city’s best rink, Vienna Ice World, with its trail through the gorgeously illuminated City Hall Park. Don’t miss the multi-level carousel, reindeer train, and nativity scene trail, in addition to all the crafts and food stalls. Plus the year-round sights such as Schönbrunn Palace and the cultural venues of the MuseumsQuartier.

Edinburgh, November 17th 2023 to January 6th 2024
One of the most popular markets in Europe sees Princes Street Gardens transformed into a wonderland with the Big Wheel with city views, the magical 'Santa Train', classic funfair rides such as a helter-skelter, and enticing stalls. Other highlights include an illuminated walkway with Edinburgh Castle and Old Town views, and installations such as Edinburgh’s Nativity Scene. Other must-sees range from the National Museum of Scotland to the Palace of Holyroodhouse.
