"a fortunate stroke of serendipity"
Happy New Year to all! I thought I'd start the year off with the word "Serendipity". I don't think I will ever take moments touched by Serendipity lightly.
Today was one of those. I was in a rush to get some groceries during a break I had. As I was leaving, a woman who was sat on the short brick wall having a smoke spoke to me. "Excuse me miss, do you have 20p you can spare?"
I was somewhat surprised, since it was the first time in many years I saw anyone asking for money outside this shop. I looked at her and said "Yes, sure!" and gave her a pound.
I am a very lucky and blessed woman, but I can look back many years ago now and know what it felt like being in need.
She thanked me and I wished her a good day and took my trolly to my car (very close to where she was) and put my groceries in. I then took my trolly back, passing her on the way. I smiled and went towards my car and she said "Hey! Don't forget your cereal!" Ha! I had left a box of cereal in that cart and didn't notice it in my hurry.
I went and fetched the cereal and when I passed her, I thanked her and said "Hey! Things always happen for a reason." We both smiled and I went on my way.
That box of cereal cost more than a pound. She could have taken it. She could have not said anything. She was a good soul having a difficult time.
May we all have moments of Serendipity this year, and not miss seeing them!
