Why do zebras have stripes on their coats ? 🦓

Several hypotheses have been put forward for several years: camouflage, refreshment, identification systems etc.

Among these theories, one in particular has captured the attention of researchers. According to the latest studies, zebras' stripes serve to protect them from tsetse flies by deceiving them.

Like other animals, zebras fear these flies, which feed on their blood and transmit sleeping sickness. Thanks to their two-tone striped coats, zebras disrupt the vision of these flies, which considerably reduces the risk of being bitten.🚫

These wonderful people toured with us on December 2023, and they left such a amazing review.

Amazing experience organised by a great team

Dec 2023 • Couples

We decided (3 of us) to do a safari for Xmas this year and have come across a2zebra experience by friend recommendation. Musa and his team met all our expectations and beyond. Having no knowledge of the region, the parks, the appropriate length etc, we let Musa and his team guide us toward our dream Safari (5 days starting from Arusha all the way to Central Serengeti) choosing everything from the itinerary to the hotels, and it was more than worth it!

Arriving in Kilimanjaro airport we met with Musa, our Guide Omari (French and English speaking, very good level!) and our jeep, a super comfortable 4x4 Toyota Landcruiser. Musa and Omari were both really genuine nice people and we’re really glad to have met them and spent time with them to do this trip.
During our safari we saw all big five (including Leopards), kills and amazing landscapes. Omari was an amazing guide providing us with great knowledge of the area, animals and driving. He always went beyond his way to make sure we were having a great time and also found pretty much all the animals and things you dream of seeing in a Safari. We really got on with him and there was a great atmosphere in the car and in the evening at dinner!

We took the “normal” accommodation packages which was really good, all lodges and camps were absolutely great, the food was great with the ability to build your lunchbox for the day.

We highly recommend anyone looking in the depth of the hundreds of companies offering safaris in Tanzania to choose a2zebra experience

You might see a land of antelope, but the cheetahs see FAST FOOD! 🥩

Why are the antelope preferred food for cheetahs? Because they are small enough for the cheetah to catch, and are not as fast as them.

It's and as always, I'm providing you with the most interesting about the Moth of . 🪰🦋

1. There are about 1,700 known moth species in Tanzania. 🪰🦋

2. Moth are holometabolic. This means they have 4 stages in their life cycle (egg, larva, pupa and adult).

3. The African Monarch moth eat the milkweed plant which is extremely toxic to humans. Thanks for that Moths!

4. The toxic/poison does not hurt the moth, in fact, they assimilate with poisons from the toxic plant, and then they become poisonous themselves to potential predators like birds. 🐦☠️

5. Moths are feeding on keratin which is found in antelope or buffalo horns. That's why you'll see a lot of moths found on each dead antelope or buffalo horns.

6. The moth's horn provides protection from the sun and predators.
