Egypt 🇪🇬

From the bottom to the top

In 2017, Egypt was not among the Top 10 African Countries with the best roads. They were ranked 107th globally behind Zimbabwe.

Five years later in 2022, they are ranked number 2 in Africa after Namibia and 28th globally.

Egypt’s remarkable achievement is attributed to the national road project launched in August 6, 2014.

The state embarked on the construction of bridges, interchanges and new road network with lengths of 7,000 km at a total cost of $211 billion.

The project is believed to have resulted in a decrease in the rates of road accident by 41 percent, the injuries by more than 50 percent and the mortality rate.

The cross-border road connecting Somaliland and Ethiopia is nearing completion.

The Berbera-corridor road project that connects Somaliland’s port city of Berbera with Ethiopia’s border town of Togochale has reached 85 percent completion.

The road is expected to make Somaliland, along with Djibouti and Kenya, an emerging competitor in attracting Ethiopian importers and exporters.

Good news for everyone traveling to South Africa.

International travelers arriving in South Africa no longer need to provide proof of vaccination or negative COVID test results. As of June 23, 2022, the South African government has dropped all COVID-19 restrictions for travelers and citizens/residents of South Africa.

South Africa’s Minister of Health Dr. Joe Phaahla said in a statement announcing the repeal, “We have reached a turning point since the outbreak of COVID-19 in the world and in the country.” After three weeks of monitoring continuing declines in daily cases, hospitalizations, positivity rates and deaths, health officials suspended all indoor mask requirements, limitations on gatherings and proof of vaccination and PCR test results at ports of entry.

Phaahla cautioned that COVID-19 is not gone and urged continued vaccination and booster shots as part of a healthy lifestyle. South Africa joins a growing number of nations in rescinding all COVID-19 restrictions.

The Prime Minister of Ethiopia Dr. Abiy Ahmed Ali congratulated RIDE Ethiopia for expanding within the Horn Region to begin operations in Djibouti. Ride Ethiopia is one of the on demand trandportation hailing and booking service in Addis Ababa. In his facebook post PM Abiy Ahmed Ali asserted the growth and global expansion of home grown enterprises. He said the expansion of home grown enterprises will become a source of national pride and assets.

The Issa clan has produced numerous noble Somali men and women over the centuries, consisted of a King (Ugaas) and including many Sultans. Traditionally, the Northern Dir (Issa and Gadabuursi) men ruled these settlement pockets until the European colonial powers changed the political dynamics of Djibouti, Somaliland and Ethiopia during the late 19th century.

The name of Dire Dawa means were the "Dir Hit" Meeshii Dir Dhabah in reference to 14th century battles between the Sultanate of Ifat and Oromo people. In the Italian invasion of Ethiopia in 1935/36, Issa fought on the Italian side, in return benefited from weapons and military training and lucrative marketing opportunities for their cattle. In the second half of the twentieth century, Somalia supplied additional weapons to the Issa, which it upgraded as part of the West Somalia Liberation Front.
