What to see in the Sky this month?

12/11 Peak of Northern Taurid meteor shower (minor)

16/11 Full Moon

16/11 Mercury furthest from the Sun right after sunset, easiest to see this year

17/11 Peak of Leonid meteor shower (minor). Jupiter is close to the Moon. Uranus is at its best position to observe this month

21/11 Mars is close to the Moon

Milky Way
Only the core of the Milky Way at the end of Scorpius is visible low on the horizon as a brightish cloud. Next month the Milky Way will disappear from sight.

Planets
Mercury can be seen in the early Western evening sky until late this month. The planet reaches its highest position in the sky on the 16th. Venus is bright rising high in the East above the Sun. Jupiter rises just after sunset in the East and visible all night as a very bright point. Saturn is visible as a yellowish point in the Northwest from Sunset until about Midnight. Mars appears as a reddish dot as about Midnight, just as Saturn is setting.

After launching Blue Mountains Stargazing after the pandemic and Jervis Bay Stargazing last year, we’ve always had this dream to stargaze in Byron 🌌

We’ve been pouring our hearts into creating something truly magical. We are thrilled to launch Byron Bay Stargazing and excited to collaborate with legendary local businesses to explore the breathtaking dark skies of the Northern Rivers on Bundjalung Country.

We’ll be hosting magic events every month for a limited few days, offering bespoke pop-up stargazing experiences in collaboration with iconic venues in Byron, in additon to tailored private stargazing events under the stars, corporate gatherings and public talks with our Astrophysicist Dr. Dimitri Douchin.
