TROTTING MATCH. - A pair-horse trotting match in vehicle, for £50 aside, came off yesterday, between Mr. T. I. Coleman’s black horse Darkey, and grey horse Jack, and Mr James Mackenzie’s roan and bay horses. The distance to be trotted was from Coleman’s Empire Hotel to Johnston’s Burrangong Hotel, and back. A start was made about 1 o’clock, Mr Coleman driving his pair in a light buggy, and while Mr Mackenzie had somewhat heavier Waggoner, which also had a tilt covering. After turning the corner of the Albion Hotel the near trace of Mr Mackenzie’s near side horse came unhooked, and the delay occasioned by its refastening allowed his opponent to get such a lead that he was never overhauled. The pace was very slow indeed ; and Mr Coleman landed his pair winners; with something like 200 yards to spare.
