In the northeast of Thailand, in the province of Nong Khai, the Mekong River flows between Thailand and its neighbour, Laos. It’s worth a visit even if you only stay one night to unwind near to the Mekong while enjoying some snacks and local delicacies.

If you have a day or two to spend in Nong Khai, you should definitely stop at Sala Keoku sculpture park, also known as Wat Khaek. The majority of travellers spend one or two nights in Nong Khai on their way to or from Vientiane, Laos.
