𝑩𝒂𝒎𝒃𝒐𝒐 𝑮𝒓𝒐𝒗𝒆

Like many other New England photographers, my mind is now switching over to winter scenes. But since we have no snow here yet, I hope you don’t mind if I post a few more photos from my recent trip to Japan as we anticipate the fluffy white stuff dropping from the sky.

The use of bamboo is present throughout Japanese history as an important material for art, music and interior design (to list a few uses). So, it should be no surprise to find bamboo forests in Japan, several of which are located near the city of Kyoto.

The most popular bamboo forest is Sagano near the Tenryuji Temple in Kyoto. Here you’re sure to encounter a legion of visitors and photographers lining up shoulder to shoulder in the early morning hours just to witness the bamboo forest come alive at sunrise.

But not far away is a smaller bamboo grove that is far less visited than Sagano and every bit as photogenic in my opinion. We photographed both forests, but this photo is from the “other” grove, which I found easier and even prettier than the heavily photographed Sagano Forest. The ascending path here acts as a leading line that points toward the tall bamboo trees and the curve beyond.

Today is the last day of the two-day State Visit from Spain!

There is great interest in the Spanish language in Sweden. After English, Spanish is the most popular foreign language taught in Sweden. This can explain why Spanish music has long been so popular in Sweden. Enrique Iglesias is just one of several Spanish artists who have had multiple hits on the Swedish charts. More recently, Spanish artist Rosalía, who has collaborated with famous artists such as The Weeknd and James Blake, have been on the Swedish top charts.

There is also interest in Swedish music in Spain. During the EDM wave (electronic dance music) of the 2010s, Swedish disc jockeys like Avicii and Alesso, and members of the Swedish House Mafia in various formations, were often on the Spanish charts.
