Last year, for the virtual event, they welcomed 148 suppliers from 12 destinations and 202 buyers from 38 countries and arranged over 3000 meetings.

I personally attended and was really grateful to make personal connections with suppliers from the Balkans / Southeast Europe, such as Greece, Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro, and more!

I have already registered for the virtual even this year and look forward to setting my one-on-one appointments with suppliers as soon as it is available for booking!

Dear Fellow Travel Agents,

We have some good news and bad news to share.

First the bad:

Tine and I have talked about this at length, and we’ve decided to postpone the FAM trip until Spring 2022. We have two primary reasons for this decision:

First, the Delta variant of COVID-19 is spreading throughout the world and Slovenia is no exception. Slovenia has not drastically changed its travel policies yet, but we wouldn’t be surprised if travel is disrupted any day now.

Second, we want to provide you all the best, high-quality FAM opportunity that we can provide, and with the restrictions that are still in place and the uncertainties surrounding the worsening situation, we cannot guarantee that the experience will be unaffected.

If you registered for the Slovenian Incoming Workshop (SIW) already and would still like to attend that on your own, you are more than welcome to! The workshop is SEP 12-15 – you will only need to make your way to Ljubljana and the Slovenian Tourism Board will cover your lodging, transportation, and meals for that time. However, if you want to do anything prior to the 12th or after the 15th to take advantage of your trip to Europe, you will have to plan that and finance that yourself. Tine is happy to connect you to some great Slovenian TOs / DMCs to help you plan activities, etc. before and after the SIW. Please reach out to Tine if you want more information on that.

Now the good:

The good news about all of this is that hopefully the world will be a healthier place by Spring 2022, and we can show you all the best possible Slovenian experience! Plus, spring is a lovely time in Slovenia.

Moving forward:

Tine & I will continue to work with Slovenian partners to plan and a superb FAM experience for you in Spring 2022 (probably late April).

We’ll continue to do our Slovenia Bite: Tapas for Your Travel Bug to keep you informed and excited about Slovenia. The day/time may change though, so stay tuned for that!

Today is also Statehood Day in Slovenia!

Statehood Day (Dan državnosti) is a holiday that occurs every 25 June in Slovenia to commemorate the country's declaration of independence from Yugoslavia in 1991.

Although the formal declaration of independence did not come until 26 June 1991, Statehood Day is considered to be 25 June since that was the date on which the initial acts regarding independence were passed and Slovenia became independent.

Slovenia's declaration jumpstarted the Ten-Day War with Yugoslavia, which it eventually won. [Thanks, Wikipedia ;)]

Today, people in Slovenia typically enjoy a day off from work and proudly celebrate this occation.

Today begins the Lent Festival in Maribor, Slovenia. (Yay for festivals happening again!)

The Lent Festival is the largest Slovenian open-air festival and one of the largest in Europe.

For more than a quarter of a century, at the beginning of summer, Maribor has been transformed into a gigantic stage and a lively junction of artistic expressions, cultures and languages from around the world. Every year it welcomes about half a million visitors, almost every fourth Slovene has visited it at least once.

The Lent Festival is a festival of festivals. It hosts the world-renowned international CIOFF festival Folkart, the international jazz music festival Jazzlent, the Ana Desetnica street theatre festival, the festival of creativity and curiosity Art Camp and the Slovene cuisine festival Sladolent.

Today is Primož Trubar Day, a day to honor the author of the first book printed in the Slovene language.

Primož Trubar was an important Slovenian protestant reformer, most famously known for his Abecedarium and Catechismus books that were the first books to be published in Slovenian language.

Trubar was born on June 8th 1508.

Today, April 27 is recognized in Slovenia as the Resistance Day or the "Day of Uprising Against the Occupation".

This holiday commemorates the establishment of the Slovenian Liberation Front, an organisation that spearheaded the resistance movement against the occupying forces during the second world war. in 1941.

During the second world war, Slovenia (then part of Yugoslavia) was first partly annexed by N**i Germany on April 6th 1941 and the remainder was annexed by Italy and Hungary on April 11th 1941.

The Liberation Front, or "Partisans" fought back against the German, Italian, and Hungarian invaders to maintain Slovenian autonomy (language, culture).
