I want to share with everybody my experience with latchit RV locks. I have used electronic locks on my previous travel trailer and wanted to upgrade my fifth wheel with some electronic locks with a fob. I found latchit and order them from Amazon. Easy installation it’s really a no-brainer with how they’re supposed to be installed. My problem was the lock made my door harder to close, and my kids had to slam the door in order to close it and very often they would attempt to close the door by slamming at three or four times and still could not get it shut. As an adult, I didn’t have too much of a problem, shutting it because I could just push on the exterior of the handle and it would shut, although I did have to push harder than I feel that I should have.

I contacted latchit’s customer service via email, because they do not have a phone number you can call, they got back to me in a reasonable time and gave me some troubleshooting tips. The troubleshooting tips that they gave me did not work. They were also very mundane troubleshooting tips. For example, you have to be a moron to install this lock wrong. The measurements of my door or correct the unit was installed and we just still had a problem with it. I tried polishing the locking mechanism changing the way the striker plate sits on the door jam, and a lot of other things and we still had a problem. Latchit sent us another lock to try. We took a camping with us several times, and still had the same issues, nothing we could do would make the door easier to close.

Latchit told us to go ahead and return the locks for a refund. However, they only have a PO Box and you cannot ship FedEx or UPS to a PO Box. I very rarely go to the post office as it’s really out of the way for me in owning two businesses, it’s super inconvenient. I finally made it to the post office and sent, the locks back and after having not heard anything for a couple of weeks, I emailed the company and the reply was that the locks were used in that they would not refund me. I did not even know how to reply the that at first. especially since they are the ones that told me to send the locks back. Obviously, they knew they were used. They had been troubleshooting them with me for several months.

Needless to say, I am sure that lots of people have had good luck with these locks, their customer service seems to be all right as in they get back to you in a reasonable amount of time, but not having a phone number you can call and only having a PO Box you can ship to His concerning to me. I think their product did not work for me and I tried all the trouble shooting that I could do with them. I haven’t replace the lock and still had the same issues and returned it on the request. Now they will not refund my money and they want to send me the locks back. What do you all think about this?

Man what a heck of a first camping trip for 2023. Emiley Odom will post the details but here is list of crazy things that happened during our trip.

1. One kid burnt (branded) same cheek, twice, from roasting marshmallow stick.

2. Road rash on all four girls from bike crashes

3. Two scratches to the face from tree branches.

4. Head caught fire and burnt some hair off.

5. Fishing hook stuck under finger nail

6. One flat bike tire (I always bring spare tubes though)

The Wandering Six is headed out for their first camping trip of the season tomorrow. We had a third air conditioner installed on our 2021 Forest River Sandpiper. We had a window with a slide shade installed on the main entry door.
I installed a solar powered battery minder so in the off-season, and when we are in storage, I do not have to remove my batteries and put them on a tinder. I purchased it from https://www.emapa.aero/SCC1224-20-Solar-Battery-Charger-Charger-p/batteryminder-scc1224-20.htm. It works great.
I also broke down and removed the grill on the back bumper and installed a bike rack. We use a Blackstone and rarely use the grill, so it was an easy decision to make.

When camping with a family of 6 we like anything that makes it a little easier and efficient. We are testing out these snap pads. These have eliminated the need for landing pads at most sites!
