Let’s talk traveling with points!

Last week Ryan and I flew Business Class, round trip, to Spain using credit card points. We also booked 7 nights of accommodations including a 5 star hotel and this suite which took up the entire 2nd floor, had a private elevator and rooftop terrace, and looked out onto the Royal Palace and the cathedral. For our trip, we only paid out of pocket for food and activities. Not too shabby!

This is not a scam nor is it too good to be true. Traveling on points is easy and within reach for even the “average” person. Ask me how!

I posted yesterday how I booked a luxury, business class air trip using 145,000 points. But I didn’t SPEND $145,000 to get those points. Here’s what I did:

First, I signed up for this credit card. I put LITERALLY every expense I could on this card for 3 months to hit the minimum $4,000 spend. That got me a cool 80K points. That’s enough points to EASILY fly economy round trip to Europe on points and will likely get you at least 1-2 legs in business (my flights to Spain were 34K points and 40K points back.)

I don’t earn anything from this link, this is not a scam. Just someone who wants to show you that point hacking is not as intimidating as you think.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced its intent to extend the REAL ID full enforcement date by 24 months, from May 3, 2023 to May 7, 2025. Have you heard about this “deal”? Here’s why we think it’s no beuno.

First, you can only book your flight 24 hours in advance. Next, the plan doesn’t include taxes, fees, baggage, seat selection, or priority boarding. Strike three is that the plan automatically renews annually at the bargain basement price of $2,000. So we say pass on this one.

If you’ve been following since the beginning, you know that a few months ago the Family Buffington snagged $37 plane tickets to Savannah, GA. We went this weekend and are so grateful that we get to have these experiences with our kids. At the age of 6, my kids have seen 6 states, something I didn’t accomplish until I was well into my 20s. Travel is definitely a privilege but it doesn’t have to be out of reach. Look for the deals and jump on them when you can.

Vacation Planning with MB review. Thank you for letting us help make your vacation special.

Martina took the time to listen to what we were looking to get out of our trip to Niagara falls (Canadian side) and she delivered! She took the guess work out of our long weekend planning and took my stress level down enough that I was able to enjoy every second of our trip! We gave Martina our budget and “must see” list and she presented us with a few options; one under budget, one right on budget, and one slight over budget. We ended up going a hair over budget and we couldn’t have been happier! Our stay included an incredible view at a great hotel (that offered lots of incentives for booking such as restaurant vouchers, public transit passes and arcade packages for our kiddos). Martina also helped us plan our “extra” excursions (Journey Behind the Falls, Hornblower, etc) and the icing on the came... she made sure we had all of the correct travel documents with us for the boarder crossing. I highly recommend contacting Martina if you’re looking to take some of the stress out of your vacation planning! We will certainly be using Martina's services again for upcoming trips!

Once upon a time, I was a dumb American who left her passport in Toronto and then proceeded to cross the international boundary between the US and Canada TWICE! 0/10 Do not recommend. But did you know that you don’t actually need an ID/passport to go through border crossings or airport security? It’s a good idea to have it, for sure, but if your ID is lost or stolen, there is another way. Be prepared to spend an extra 30-60 minutes with the TSA, or border control, you’ll fill out some forms, and then provide ANYthing that you can to confirm your identity. Prescription bottles with your name on them, you Apple ID account on your cell phone, credit cards, utility bills, membership cards. Literally anything with your name on it will help. Now, you don’t want to leave your ID behind intentionally, but if you do find yourself in a pickle. Don’t panic. Just give yourself extra time to work though the issue. ✈️🚢🚘 Want more travel tips?
