As announced by Secretary of State Antony Blinken during his visit yesterday, the United States, through USAID Philippines, is providing Php55 million ($1 million) in humanitarian aid to communities affected by widespread flooding triggered by Typhoon .

The assistance will address the immediate needs of affected and vulnerable communities in Bulacan, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Lanao Del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, Maguindanao del Sur, the National Capital Region, and Pampanga. Through this funding, USAID will provide families with access to food aid, hygiene kits, emergency shelter kits, clean water, and one-time cash transfers that will allow them to recover from the disaster.

Due to the continuing impact of heavy rainfall and high winds to U.S. Embassy facilities and surrounding areas, and to ensure the safety of visa applicants, Veterans Affairs (VA) clients, visitors, and staff, all appointments at the U.S. Embassy in Manila and the VA Manila Regional Benefits Office and Outpatient Clinic in Pasay for Thursday, July 25, 2024, are canceled and will be rescheduled. Those with scheduled appointments will be contacted to inform them of the rescheduling procedure.

The Personal/Head Chef leads in planning, preparing, and presenting high quality meals for a senior diplomatic official. The position is also responsible for ensuring that day-to-day kitchen operations are performed to optimal standards.

The position is expected to perform the following tasks:
• Provide guidance and direction to the Assistant Chef.
• Prepare daily meals for a senior diplomat’s family.
• Demonstrate creativity and initiative in menu creation.
• Design menus and prepare dishes for official luncheons, dinners, and receptions for an international audience, including government officials, senior executives, and business leaders.
• Determine proper purchasing and storage of goods, and prepare invoices for expenses.
• Enforce applicable safety procedures and food handling and hygiene standards in all areas of the kitchen and in food sourcing, preparation, serving, and storage.
• Able to perform additional duties as requested.

The ideal candidate must demonstrate mastery of a wide variety of cooking techniques and cuisines to deliver food that will satisfy the principals and their guests. To successfully fill this role, applicants must:
• Have at least a Bachelor's Degree in Hospitality/Hotel and Restaurant Management or equivalent; or a Culinary Arts Certification
• Have five (5) years of progressively responsible chef experience
• Demonstrated leadership within culinary and/or hospitality fields
• Have good command of the English language
