Trevor's hat is now a legend. One lady saw his hat on a boat trip at Port Arthur and told her friend. The friend was at another venue where Trevor was and said "You're the man with the hat with the cockatoo on it". People are even stopping him in the street for photographs of the hat now.

After visiting Waratah yesterday we drove out to Savage River, which turned out to be a mining camp built for the magnetite iron ore mine on the river. On the way back towards Waratah, we found Whyte Hills lookout which looks out over part of the Savage River National Park which is part of the Tarkine. We found some amazing fungi and lichen at the lookout.

We visited the little town of Waratah yesterday. An original tin mining town, it has a waterfall right in the middle of town, that was used for the first hydro-electricity plant in Australia. Some of the structure is still visible on both sides of the waterfall. The waterfall is directly in line of view from the oldest hotel in town, The Bischoff Hotel. From the waterfall lookout you can view the ravine and part of the Tarkine.

Derby is the Mountain bike centre of Tasmania. There are 2 tracks on the mountain and a number of tracks around the hills including the one over the bridge which is suitable for all ages and experience levels. A new bicycle/skateboard park was recently opened. The river is beautiful to walk around too.

The things you see when you don't have a fishing rod or net. There were thousands of whiting all along the rock wall of the inlet at Bridport yesterday. Never seen anything like it before.

Our second night in Tassie (Tue 28th March) we stayed overnight in Deloraine because we had to get a tyre changed on the camper on Wednesday. We stayed at this hotel. Very nice. Rooms have all been modernised with ensuite. There was a communal kitchen/lounge where we had some wonderful conversations with others from Qld. It really is a small world. We went for a walk along the river in the afternoon. Lots of wildlife and I even managed to snap a platypus.

The day has finally arrived. We are on the SoT. Just getting settled and checking out the boat. We head out in around an hour. Expecting to be in Devonport around 6.30pm.

What an exciting day. We are traveling the Great Ocean Road. First stop: Bay of Islands.

We are currently staying in Mt Gambier. We drove down to Part Macdonell for a look around. Beautiful place. Lots of farm scenery along the way down. We have now been to the Australian mainlands most southerly point. We had lunch at the Parade Fish Shop. The food was delicious and fresh. The staff were lovely and allowed me to charge my camera battery which had suddenly gone flat. Would definitely recommend this place.
