Lots of interest and bookings over the last few days. Lovely to see people starting to get excited about taking holidays after enduring so much worry and uncertainty in their lives Over the last couple of years.

Moulin de Brisseaux is such an ideal peaceful place to take a relaxing holiday to recharge your batteries. Blue skies, warm sunny days, fresh clean air & lovely country walks, local good food and wine and beautiful sunsets which have such a range of shades and colours that they give the Northern Lights a run for their money!

Here are a few of tonight’s colours of the night. The sunset can be seen from both sides of the mill and it is truly a lovely way to relax and end the day. The second photo is the sunset view from the bedroom in the mill.

As another day at MDB draws to a close

Heavy rain stopped play, but it was needed. Great to see some of the fruits of last years labours finally taking shape especially as they regularly got ‘under the feet’ on the 1000 mile pre Brexit York to France journey.

Every year at MDB, as well as carrying out the annual maintenance, we try to do a project that helps to improve its ‘curb appeal’. This year, it’s tackling the garden. Pruning and planting.

The garden already has Fig, Almond and Walnut trees as well as a ‘help yourself’ herb box. We are hoping to add arch’s for climbing plants to create picture windows with views over the vineyard to the chateau as well as plant more fruit trees for guests to pick during their stay.

We post before and after photos to help us track our journey As we are really proud to own this little gem.

Welcome to Moulin de Brisseaux our rental home in the sun

We regularly get asked about the mill and the surrounding area of France and what there is to do so here is an example itinerary.

Day 1 - Arrive. Relax by the pool and explore Loubes Bernac
Day 2 - Drive to Bergerac for sightseeing & cafe culture. Stop to view the magnificent chateau at Monbazillac on the way.
Day 3 Drive to nearby Duras to explore the market, chateau or museums. Go wine tasting at one of the many domaines on the way home.
Day 4 Drive to Bordeaux or Arachon to see the largest sand dune in Europe. Maybe visit Saint Emilion on the way there or back
Day 5 Drive to the Bastide villages of Monflanquin and Eymet. Sightseeing, shopping and night market.
Day 6 - Drive to Saint Foy Le Grande to see the architecture, visit the market
Day 7 Relax until departure

for the active...days out by car can be replaced with daily bike rides and water based activities on the Lot, Garonne and Dordogne rivers.

for a budget relaxing break it is possible to spend all 7 days at the mill relaxing by the pool, reading, painting, walking and cycling.

BONNE ANNEE! 🥂 from the Moulin de Brisseaux

Well 2020 certainly was a challenging year! It saw the mill undergoing a face lift. We restored the lighting in the mill and restored functioning to the private pool & garden. we added all new white goods to the kitchen and gave the kitchen a bit of updating, including opening up an old fire grate which had been boxed away for years.

Spending time enjoying the mill allowed us to experience holidays as our visitors would. We swam in the private pool, sunbathed in the private garden, watched the glorious sunsets over the valley from steamer chairs in the garden. We warm sunny climate meant we could eat ‘al fresco’ from dawn to dusk. We walked to the local bakery for fresh bread and croissants and we enjoyed doing many of the local walks and cycle rides. The five windmills walk actually ends outside of the mill!

Whilst covid restrictions prevented us visiting beautiful Bordeaux, we were able to visit Bergerac and many of the beautiful Bastide villages many of which we could drive to within one hour. We could continue to work as the mill has a strong and effective internet connection.

Whilst many restaurants were closed due to the lockdown we did get to enjoy food at two excellent restaurants in neighbouring Monestier and Saussignac. There are night markets in Eymet and Monsegur and nearby golf courses and other tourist attractions.

Don't just take it from us, come and try it for yourself!

The rental period starts April 2021, with the pool open from May to October. July and August dates Book quickly So don’t wait to book. Minimum rental period is 7 nights and we offer a 10% reduction for bookings of 14 nights or more. Longer stays can be accommodated if required (Contact us for details). The mill is not suitable for children or those who have mobility problems due to the open staircase. Regretfully, pets are not accepted.

The mill is an ideal place for an ‘away from it all‘ Honeymoon, a couples romantic break, a base for a cycling, walking, sightseeing holiday, a just a place to go for respite (1 or 2 people). It would make a great base for a writing, painting, photography holiday as the quiet, scenic plot lends itself to that type of holiday.

Airport transfers can be arranged for anyone not wanting the responsibility of hiring a car and welcome packs or shopping can be purchased for you (at cost) pre your arrival.

Busy time around MDB. 2020 Vendage. How good to see that those grapes we watched ripen over the summer are going to be in next years glass! This machine is a serious bit of kit and fascinating to watch as it separates all the grapes 🍇 from the vines. ....amazing to watch, if somewhat a bit noisy!
