Disney has announced that the “Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party” for 2022 has been sold out.

Returning for the first time since 2019, this extra ticketed event is a very popular attraction to the Magic Kingdom park. Unfortunately, if you have not purchased your tickets already, you will need to wait until 2023.

Chapek is Out! Disney Welcomes Back Bob Iger
https://i1.wp.com/themeparkflorida.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/iger.jpg?resize=907%2C534&ssl=1

Bob Iger returns as CEO of Disney Corporation

Breaking Disney news is that CEO Bob Chapek has been fired by Disney and former CEO Bob Iger has returned.

Long-time Disney fans have been asking for the ouster of Chapek for several years now and solely blame him for the beginning of the downfall of the Disney Theme Parks.

The termination of Chapek does come as a shock though seeing as though Disney recently extended his contract as the Grand Poobah of the House of Mouse. Although with falling stock prices and stagnant subscription rates with online services such as ESPN+ and Disney+ a change was needed.

The news broke late last night (November 20, 2022) when old/new CEO Bob Iger sent the following email to all Disney Employees

Dear Fellow Employees and Cast Members,

It is with an incredible sense of gratitude and humility -and, I must admit, a bit of amazement -that I write to you this evening with the news that I am returning to The Walt Disney Company as Chief Executive Officer.

When I look at the creative success of our teams across our Studios, Disney General Entertainment, ESPN and International, the rapid growth of our streaming services, the phenomenal reimagining and rebound of our Parks, the continued great work of ABC News, and so many other achievements across our businesses, I am in awe of your accomplishments and I am excited to embark with you on many new endeavors.

I know this company has asked so much of you during the past three years, and these times certainly remain quite challenging, but as you have heard me say before, I am an optimist, and if I learned one thing from my years at Disney, it is that even in the face of uncertainty -perhaps especially in the face of uncertainty -our employees and Cast Members achieve the impossible.

You will be hearing more from me and your leaders tomorrow and in the weeks ahead. In the meantime, allow me to express my deep gratitude for all that you do. Disney holds a special place in the hearts of people around the globe thanks to you, and your dedication to this company and its mission to bring joy to people through great storytelling is an inspiration to me every single day.

Was The Magic Kingdom 50th Anniversary a Flop?
https://i0.wp.com/themeparkflorida.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/IMG_7036-scaled-e1656427584351-1024x312.jpeg?resize=1024%2C312&ssl=1

October 1, 2021 was supposed to be the big day. I had been advertised well over two years before. The 50th Anniversary of Magic Kingdom. There were supposed to be huge celebrations of the 50 years of Magic Kingdom and Disney World in Florida. It was supposed to be an eighteen month celebration of the Mouse. There was parties, merchandise and special events that were to bring in huge crowds. But then March, 2020 came and everything came crashing down… COVID-19.

The world-wide pandemic caused not only the 50th Anniversary Celebration of Magic Kingdom be in jeopardy, but it also disrupted the lives and businesses of everyone else in the world.

As precautions were developed and the world was starting to somewhat open up again, Disney re-opened Disney World in Orlando at a limited capacity in June, 2020. Due to this, Disney also suspended quite a few entertainment options which further put the anniversary celebration in doubt. No longer would any of the Florida parks offer fireworks, parades, Extra Magic Hours, FastPass+, Character Meet and Greets and much, much more.

As the months went on, Disney World started to increase the capacity of the parks, but introduced a Park Reservation System. This meant that you had to book a reservation ahead of time to be admitted into each park.

Tron Roller Coaster Courtesy of Disney Parks

Disney’s crown jewel of the celebration was to be a new roller coaster in Magic Kingdom. It was originally supposed to be open for the start of the eighteen month long party. Tron was supposed to draw in the crowds, but due to the pandemic and the ensuing global shortage, the project had to be postponed. As of the date of this post, the ride still has not been completed, but is still projected to open in the Spring of 2023.

As of the time of this post, we are almost halfway through the eighteen month long celebration. The only indications that it is still going on is the change of the color of Cinderella Castle and some ridiculously expensive merchandise of the same color with the 50 logo on it. Some character meet and greets have returned, but not all. FastPass+ was discontinued and replaced with the pay-to-ride Genie+. Disney World has also introduced several large price increases on all food and beverages throughout the parks.

In the parks today, it is an afterthought. There are no special events for the 50th Celebration scheduled, nothing for the guests that are now paying more and getting less. I would have to say that as of the time of this post, yes, it is a huge flop.

We are hoping that this changes. There is still nine months left of the

50th Anniversary Celebration and hopefully the leadership of both Disney World and Magic Kingdom changes. Our hope is that the Corporate Greed that has taken over the leadership of the Disney Parks Division starts to change and bring back Magic Kingdom to what was Walt Disney’s dream.

Is SeaWorld Orlando Worth the Price?
https://i0.wp.com/themeparkflorida.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/seaworld.jpg?resize=1024%2C725&ssl=1

We have all noticed that the cost of visiting any Orlando area theme park has skyrocketed over the past couple of years.

Due to the fact that Disney World is the most popular park and why most are visiting Orlando they have taken the wrath of most for the cost just to enter the park. But one park has flown under the radar on the cost to visit and that is SeaWorld in Orlando.

At one point, SeaWorld was one of the least expensive parks to visit. It offered a “break” from the large crowds and high prices of both Disney World and Universal. It was a nice park to visit and view different forms of sea life and how SeaWorld help rehabilitate those animals so that they may be released back into the wild.

SeaWorld’s biggest draw used to be their Orca show where Killer Whales performed with trainers and if you sat in the first 10-15 rows, you were going to get soaked. This show no longer exists and instead, the park is trying to become a destination for rollercoasters.

Prices to enter the park have increased astronomically over the past 10 years.

Let’s break down the cost for visiting SeaWorld Orlando for one day/one park and compare it to both Universal and Disney World.

Cost

SeaWorld Orlando

Universal Orlando

Disney World

Parking

$30.00

$30.00

$25.00 (free for hotel guests)

1 Day Admission

$124.00

$109.00 (1 park)

$109.00 (1 park)

Express Pass/Front of the line

$29.99

$79.99

$15.00

Total

$183.99

$218.99

$149.00

Amazing that Disney takes the most grief for raising prices, but when looking at costs for one day/one park… Disney is actually the cheapest.

I had wanted to include the cost of food in the parks, but SeaWorld does not publish prices on their menus as Universal and Disney World do.

Keep in mind that there are a lot variables to take into account. If the “Express Pass” is not bought at Universal Studios (Universal, $79 is a bit ridiculous for this feature.), then SeaWorld would be the most expensive of the three parks.

So is SeaWorld worth the ticket price? In my opinion… no. If looking at all the options with Universal Studios two parks and Disney World’s four parks, there are better options and more choice for your money.

No matter how you look at it, going to any of the theme parks in Orlando is very expensive. There are ways to lower the costs depending on the number of days and the time of the year in which you visit. My opinion is still that SeaWorld in Orlando is currently not worth the price.

Not even Magic Kingdom made it on the Top 10 Domestic Theme Parks.

Is SeaWorld in Orlando, Florida the Best Theme Park in the United States? USA Today’s 10Best thinks they are.

USA Today recently released the top 10 domestic theme parks and none of the Disney World, Disneyland or Universal Studios parks in the United States were in the list.

The USA Today “10Best” explains “A panel of experts partnered with 10Best editors to pick the initial nominees, and the top 10 winners were determined by popular vote.” They do not explain how the initial nominees were picked or who voted to determine the winners.

Although I find it hard to believe that SeaWorld was voted as a better theme park than either Disney World or Universal Studios Florida in Orlando. I find it harder to believe that NONE of the Disney parks and Universal Studios park are on this list. But the USA Today post is doing what it is supposed to do, people are talking about it (including us) and it is generating views for its website.

Here is the 10Best top ten winners in the category Best Theme Park:

SeaWorld Orlando – Orlando, Florida

Silver Dollar City – Branson, Missouri

Kings Island – Mason, Ohio

Busch Gardens Williamsburg – Williamsburg, Virginia

Busch Gardens Tampa Bay – Tampa, Florida

Cedar Point – Sandusky, Ohio

Dollywood – Pigeon Forge, Tennessee

Six Flags Magic Mountain – Valencia, California

Holiday World – Santa Claus, Indiana

HersheyPark – Hershey, Pennsylvania

During the warm and humid days of Spring in Orlando, Florida a dip in some nice, cool, refreshing water would most likely be refreshing.

But not for these unlucky riders of Disney’s Splash Mountain in Disney World’s Magic Kingdom theme park.

This event is from Monday, March 28 around 11am. The video seems to be near the end of the ride as it filled up with water, causing the riders to have to abandon ship.

It seems as though the rear end of the ship filled with water causing the log to “sink”. Luckily, nobody was injured in this mishap, only soaking wet.

Disney has not released a comment or acknowledged this incident.

A major step for most visitors to Central Florida Resorts is booking an airline to get to Orlando.

Orlando International Airport (MCO) is the main hub for theme park travelers. Orlando International Airport better know as MCO is the largest airport in central Florida and caters to all the Central Florida tourist destinations. It is a very busy airport with transportation to Disney, Universal, SeaWorld and more.

MCO also offers taxi, Uber, bus and car rental services that will also take you to the Resorts. MCO is currently going through a transformation so that the airport will be able to handle the projected increase in traffic for the next 20 years. Even though there is quite a bit of construction going on, MCO is very easy to get into and exit from.

MCO also offers the widest variety of airlines coming in from throughout the United States and the rest of the World.

Follow this link to see which airlines have service to Orlando International Airport: https://www.orlandoairports.net/flights/

OUR SUGGESTIONS

We would suggest that if you are coming from a colder climate that you would consider purchasing insurance for your flight. During the Winter months, snow storms can wreak havoc on flights, even if the storm is days before your scheduled trip.

GETTING “BUMPED”

It is common practice for airlines in the United States to overbook their busy flights. This is a practice that here at DisneyDawgs, we think should be illegal. But as of right now it is not and airlines regularly do this. “Bumping” is the practice of the airline selling more reservations for a flight than there are seats. In most cases not all tickets sold show up for the scheduled flight and there are not problems. But often, more people show up than there are seats for on the flight. When this happens, the airline will offer incentives to anyone willing to give up their seat for a later flight by offering free fares for a future flight and some even offer cash back. If not enough people take advantage of the incentives an airline is offering, those that were the last to check in for the flight will be “bumped” to a later flight.

Like I said, we believe that this practice should be outlawed and, well, it is just not right. The only thing that we can suggest for this practice is to make sure that you check in early for your flight and do not have any time-sensitive plans for the day that your flight is scheduled to arrive in Orlando.

CROWDS

Again, MCO is a very busy International Airport. Depending upon the time of year, the airport may take some time to get through.

Plan on extra time to get through the airport during the following times of year.

Christmas/New Year

February Vacation

Spring Break (March)

April/Easter Break

Thanksgiving Weekend

Remember when leaving Orlando, MCO is one of the most difficult and time-consuming airports to get through TSA security and Customs. During peak times, plan an extra 2-3 hours to get to your gate.

OTHER AIRPORTS

There are several other airports in the Central Florida region that it may be possible to fly into.

Orlando Sanford International Airport – Sanford is a smaller airport located in Sandford, FL, which is just outside of Orlando. There are limited airline opportunities at Sanford with the budget Allegiant Air hosting the majority of arrivals and departures. Orlando/Sanford International Airport is a further distance away (aprox 45 miles, MCO is 18 miles away) from most of the the major Orlando area attractions.

Tampa International Airport (TPA)- Tampa International Airport is quite a distance from the Orlando area. The airport is 78 miles away from the

Central Florida Amusement Parks. Some people fly into TPA because there is less a volume of travelers and some airlines offer lower rates to fly out of TPA rather than MCO.

Daytona Beach International Airport (DAB) – Daytona Beach International Airport is a small airport located right next to the Daytona Beach International Speedway. This airport would most-likely be an option if 1. Your were also going to Daytona for the Daytona 500 held in February each year. or 2. You were not able to get a flight into one of the above airports. DAB is 81 miles from the Central Florida Amusement Parks.

Orlando Melbourne International Airport – Melbourne is a very small airport on the East Coast of Florida. American Airlines and Delta offer service to this airport that is 75 miles away from the

Central Florida Amusement Parks.

All other MAJOR airports (Miami, Ft. Lauderdale) are 150 or more miles away from the

Central Florida Amusement Parks which would most-likely be a 3+ hour drive and not worth looking into other than if you were visiting other areas of Florida than the Orlando region.

Well, that is some basic information about flying into Orlando, FL. In most cases, we would recommend that you use Orlando International Airport because everything is geared toward the Orlando Tourist Industry.

Where ever you fly from and to, DisneyDawgs wishes you have a very safe flight and have a wonderful time visiting the Orlando area.
