Sosian Lodge

Set on a 24,000 acre wildlife ranch, Sosian pride themselves on managing a unique blend of tourism, conservation and traditional cattle ranching in Laikipia’s highlands.

The wildlife on Sosian has flourished. They are fortunate enough to have a diverse cross section of habitats that hosts a long list of birds and mammals, including elephant, hippo, buffalo, lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena, giraffe, zebra, kudu, oryx, impala, warthog, plus many smaller predators such as bat-eared foxes, genet cats, and serval cats.

Go out & see wildlife on day & night game drives in custom designed 4x4 vehicles, or on walking safaris with an armed guide. You can also explore on horseback for a few hours, or experience a week-long horseback safari, alternatively cycle through the ranch up close to the wildlife, & see all the small things you may have missed on a game drive.

Some of the other activities available include camel treks, fly camping (either with or without horses) fishing, waterfall jumping, river tubing, kayaking, and cattle ranching. Enjoy beautiful African sunsets around a warm fire, out in the bush or on our stunning treehouse deck.

Sosian Horse Safaris: With prior arrangement, we also offer longer riding safaris from Sosian.

WORLD RANGER DAY 🥾

World Ranger Day is celebrated worldwide on July 31st to commemorate Rangers killed or injured in the line of duty and to celebrate the work Rangers do to protect the planet’s natural treasures and cultural heritage.

Let’s pause for a moment to reflect on the courage and sacrifice that Rangers make; by honouring Fallen Rangers and standing with Rangers who bravely undertake their role on the frontline.

The 2024 World Ranger Day theme is ’30 by 30‘ based on the 2022 United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15), where a Global Biodiversity Framework was agreed upon by world leaders and decision-makers. Target 3 outlined a requirement that at least 30 per cent of the planet is effectively conserved and managed by 2030 (’30 by 30’).

This target cannot be achieved without adequately resourced and trained area-based workforce.

KENYA - RWANDA - BOTSWANA

Conservations programs across africa:

Lewa Wildlife Conservancy
The protection of the magnificent rhino served as the catalyst for the establishment of Lewa Wildlife Conservancy. Since its inception in 1983, Lewa has been steadfast in providing a secure and suitable habitat for these iconic creatures. As the first and leading private rhino sanctuary in East Africa, Lewa’s rhino population has grown from an initial 15 rhinos to 244 rhinos today.

Big Life
The Greater Amboseli ecosystem is generally regarded as one of the richest wildlife regions left in Africa. But the same animals that make it famous also put it in the crosshairs for illegal wildlife crime. Big Life strives to prevent the poaching of all wildlife in our area of operation. Our community rangers are expertly trained, well-equipped, and ready for action at a moment’s notice.

Virunga National Park
Home to the rare mountain gorilla, the Virungas volcanoes span Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, with the Parc National des Volcans being the Rwandese element of this ecosystem.
Roughly half of the world’s wild population of mountain gorillas is resident on the Rwandan slopes of the Virungas.

Okovango Delta
The largest inland delta in the world, the Okavango Delta is the most unexpected wonder – water present in a desert. The broad Okavango River sinks into the dry sands of the Kalahari Desert, creating a lush and waterlogged oasis with crystal clear lagoons and channels, reeded islands and fertile floodplains. The Okavango Delta is home to a large number of species, including some that are specially adapted to the semi-aquatic lifestyle.

FOR RANGERS ULTRA MARATHON KENYA

A 230KM SELF-SUFFICIENT ULTRA MARATHON THROUGH THE KENYAN SAFARI

This is Kenya. In the shadow of Mount Kenya, you run through multiple conservancies teeming with East Africa’s iconic wildlife and support the brave rangers who protect them.

Under the watchful eye of the Rangers, you will share your safari with rhino, elephants, impala, zebra, giraffe and more. The challenging terrain varies from baking grasslands, rocky hills, riverbeds and montane forest.

In this beautiful place, a war is being fought. A war between armed and organised poaching cartels and the Rangers. The Rangers are the thin wall separating Africa’s last remaining elephants and rhinos from a multibillion-dollar trade in wildlife goods.

In partnership with , For Rangers is an international group who provide equipment and welfare support to those protecting Africa’s legacy, we bring you an opportunity to join the fight by taking on a life changing ultra marathon in Africa, the home of long distance running.

It’s not just an ultra marathon but one with a purpose and to support a great organization. Get in touch if you have any other ideas of events you could take part in to raise funds for ForRangers for rowing the Atlantic to swimming the channel to climbing Everest or taking part in our

RHINO & PANGOLIN CONSERVATIONS
Kenya

Borana conservancy
Borana Conservancy, under a collaborative management agreement with Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, is now home to a ‘Key 1’ black rhino population, one of only three in East Africa.

‘Key 1’ rating is given by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature’s African Rhino Specialist Group to identify significant populations that are stable, increasing and have achieved continental importance. Kenya is home to just over 760 black rhinos and 620 southern white rhinos, the Lewa-Borana Landscape is home to 13% of this population.

Pangolin project, Masai Mara
The Pangolin Project is a non-profit organisation based in Kenya, dedicated to pangolin conservation research and protection. Pangolins need our help. They are the most illegally trafficked mammal in the world due to demand for their scales in traditional medicine.

The project is working to identify and conserve important pangolin populations in our region, raising awareness and using science to inform conservation strategy. They deliver our work in partnership with communities and wildlife rangers, believing that collaboration is the key to conservation success.
