My Name is Wendy Garcia i am a born Belizean and lives in the Ontario Village Cayo District. I am
currently working at Friends for Conservation and Development; there I am currently Chief Ranger of
the Karst Management Unit for the Chiqubul Cave Systems. The Karst Management Unit is responsible
for the caves, watershed, illegal deforestation and mapping and survey of the Chiquibul Cave System.
For the past 2 years at FCD we have been working in exploration, expedition and the development of
the Chiquibul National Park. Currently I am managing a new agency known as Belize Institute of Search
and Rescue Training, a school for training in First Aid, Swift Water Rescue, Cave and Wilderness Rescue,
Wilderness First Responder and Search and Rescue.
Throughout the years I have been a member of the Belize defence force for 15 years; there I got
involved in Rescue. I did 7 years at the BDF Hospital and left as a Copral in the BDF. Also I did several
training in various areas, such as Combat Medic, Tactical Rescue Medic, Search and Rescue, Wilderness
First Responder and many other, I started off as a member of the Belize Disaster Rescue Response Team
the over the years I became the Incident commander for the Belize Association for Search and Rescue
for over a period of 3 years. I have conducted training for National Emergency Management
Organization, the Belize Defence Force, the Coast Guard, Tour Guide recertification through BDARRT and
BASAR. I have also conducted training for many tour companies over the years such as Jaguar Paw, Black
Rock, Vitalino and many other just to name a few. I have conducted many search and rescue operation
for National Emergency, such as in hurricane and flooding and cave rescue for tourism in ATM cave and
many others.
I have developed many programs such as the Tactical Rescue Medic Training which include many
organizations such as Belize Defence Force, Coast Guard, NEMO, US Army South Commmand and the
Belize Disaster Rescue Response Team. This training was to merge Tactical, Medical and Rescue to form
the Tactical Rescue Medic Program. Other program was also conducted such as the Wilderness First
Responder, Swift Water Rescue and Search and Rescue program for the country of Belize.
I believe in making a difference and teaching and passing on my knowledge to other, to assist in the
development of individuals, the work place and as country. I have been conducted many training along
with Mr Marcus Cucul and agencies such as Out World Medical, Rescue 3 International, Texas Tech
University, University of Belize and Ranger programs for conservation and development in the Chiquibul
National park. I am dedicated in what I do and will continue doing it for a better Belize.
