It's Auroramageddon, for those who have clear skies!! I declare a !!!! Join us as we do everything we can to catch the predicted G4 Storm, which is setting up to be another historical Aurora display! 💥🌎☄️😎

Followers of our page! We invite you to join the Michigan Aurora Chasers as we teach you how to catch the Northern Lights! Everyone is invited to a of the Michigan Aurora Chasers featuring Photographer Nate Stovall, who conjured up this event idea back in 2021, and Founder Melissa F. Kaelin.

Bring your questions and everything you need, including very warm clothing, blankets, lawn chairs, a headlamp with a red light option, cameras, tripods, snacks and water. Plan to carry out all trash too. If you come out to this large mentoring event, please do not expect perfectly dark photos. We're here to show beginners the rope with kindness and the utmost respect!

— Drive past the restaurant and it leads you to a parking area with no house. PLEASE NO parking past the tree line on the peninsula. Overflow parking is available at the boat launch. Two restrooms are located on site. The best viewing is on Breakwater Road, where we will be.

RSVP to the event to get all updates! Please note that this is a 3-hour drive for Melissa and a far drive for Nate. Give us time and patience and know that we may not be able to respond. During events, both the Guides and the attendees may lose cell phone service.

They're calling it the "Slow Burn!" The Northern Lights notoriously missed their big weekend, after the forecasts of solar activity pointed to incredible potential, but the Michigan Aurora Chasers caught the long-awaited effects of this often unpredictable "space weather" on Monday night.

Aurora danced across Michigan and beyond on October 7-8, 2024, with an all-night display during a brilliant G3 Storm. Photographers caught the corona, SAR arcs (Stable Aurora Red), S.T.E.V.E.'s "picket fence," pulsing and flashing, and enormous pillars!

Congratulations to all in Michigan and beyond who caught the dance!

Aurora Across Michigan Over Time

On the historic day of May 10, 2024, people everywhere realized the Northern Lights have danced across every state of the U.S.!! Michigan is no exception, although many county’s skies were blocked by clouds that night. So, we compiled a map of Aurora over time that represents every county in this beautiful state!

With the generous talents of MichiganScapes, the Michigan Aurora Chasers can now look upon a map of Aurora Across Michigan, from the Lower Peninsula to the Upper Peninsula! The Michigan Aurora Chasers led a successful chase of the Northern Lights on Sept. 18-19, their second successful chase inside of one week. Aurora Chasers from across the state of Michigan and the surrounding states also caught a strong display of the Aurora Borealis during a G3 Storm (a strong geomagnetic storm) on Sept. 18-19, 2023. Congratulations to all of the chasers who caught the Aurora for the first time!

Congratulations to the winners of our latest photography contest for the Michigan Aurora Chasers! Our group consists of many talented photographers, who have been able to capture the Northern Lights in amazing colors, formations, and locations across the state of Michigan.

We're thrilled to honor the winner of our latest contest for his amazing photography and contributions to the community, Scott Shields! We are also proud to recognize the top five winners in the photography contest including Julianne Hanford, Sarah M. Goodwin, Patrick Russell, and Tim Trombley. Enjoy their brilliant photography!

A watch is now in effect for a minor geomagnetic storm (Kp5) after the sun launched a Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) toward Earth's atmosphere, and a warning has been issued for Kp4. With this impact, Michigan and other northern states will have another chance to catch the Northern Lights tonight above the 45th Parallel on Friday, July 14th. Good luck on the Aurora Chasing trail!
