Ethiopia, the birthplace of humanity is also the birthplace of coffee. Ethiopian coffee is more bitter than what we have been tasting at Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts. It is also thicker but thickness is not consistent so as you sip your way towards the bottom of the cup it becomes thicker and more bitter.

No one is going to frown if you add sugar to your cup but then what do you want to taste? coffee or sugar?

*Ever wonder why children can run around in the mosques so freely? The gentleness of our Prophet in dealing with his own children and grandchildren will remind us to treat the kids with affection and kindness.*

The Messenger of Allah came out to us for one of the two later prayers [Thuhr Asr], carrying (his grandson) Hasan or Hussein. The Prophet then came to the front and put him down, said Takbir for the prayer and commenced praying.

During the prayer, he performed a very long prostration, so I raised my head and there was the child, on the back of the Messenger of Allah, who was in prostration. I then returned to my prostration.

When the Messenger of Allah had offered the prayer, the people said: “O Messenger of Allah! In the middle of your prayer, you performed prostration and lengthened it so much that we thought either something had happened or that you were receiving revelation!”

He said: “Neither was the case. Actually, my grandson made me his mount, and I did not want to hurry him until he had satisfied his wish" (Reported by Nasaa'i, Ibn Asaakir, and Haakim).

The Messenger of Allah would pray holding Umaamah bint Zaynab bint Rasoolillaah. He would put her down when he prostrated, and then pick her up again when he stood up (Reported by Bukhari and Muslim)

The Prophet said: “When I stand for prayer, I intend to prolong it, but on hearing the cries of a child, I cut it short, as I dislike to trouble the child's mother" (Reported by Bukhari).

Footnotes of history:

Among the first non-natives to arrive in Texas was a Muslim from Morocco, Estevanico or Mustafa Azemmouri.

Not much is known about him because no one bothered to record his story or do much research on him.

"The Moor's Account," by Laila Lalami is a fictional story of Mustafa telling his story.

This plaque is part of Texas African American History Memorial at Texas Capitol grounds in Austin.

Imam Bukhari, a monumental figure in Islam. His book of Hadith is considered second most authentic book after Quran.

He was born in Bukhara, traveled extensively within the Islamic world of that time to collect ahadith. A brilliant analytical mind of all times.

During his later years he returned back to Bukhara but had a falling out with the Emir of Bukhara so moved to a village just outside Samarkand where he passed away at the age of 63 and this is where he is buried.

Video recorded at the place where he is buried.

Maqbara of Imam Bukhari in

His book of the Hadiths is the second most important book for Muslims after Quran. He was not just a compiler of hadith but developed a science for authenticating text-based information that has been passed from person to person and across generations.

Rare picture of Babur crying while eating melon in India. 😁 Read brilliantly-written Baburnama, a diary of Babur to find out why he cried when he got melons sent by his friends in Kabul.

Imam of travelers Ibn Battuta said that best melons are from Bukhara.

Tatari Ka Khawab
The Tartar’s Dream

Kahin Sajjada-o-Umama Rahzan
Kahin Tarsa Bachon Ki Chashme-e-Bebaak!

Prayer‐mat and priestly turban have turned footpad,
With wanton boysʹ bold glances men are flattered;

Ridaye Deen-o-Millat Para Para
Qabaye Mulk-o-Doulat Chaak Dar Chaak!

The Churchʹs mantle and the creed in shreds,
The robe of State and nation torn and tattered.

Mera Eiman To Hai Baqi-o-Lekin
Na Kha Jaye Kahin Shuale Ko Khashaak!

I cling to faith but may its spark not soon
Lie quenched under these rubbish‐heaps thick‐scattered!

Hawa-e-Tund Ki Moujon Mein Mehsoor
Samar-o-Bukhara Ki Kaf-e-Khak!

Bokharaʹs humble dust and Samarkandʹs
The turbulent billows of many winds have battered.

“Bagar Da Gard-e-Khud Chandan Ke Beenam
Bila Anghastari-o-Mann Nageenam”

A gem set in a ring of misery
That circles me on every side, am I.*

Yakayak Hil Gyi Khak-e-Samar Qand
Utha Taimoor Ki Turbat Se Ek Noor

Suddenly quivered the dust of Samarkand,
And from an ancient tomb a light shone, pure

Shafaq Amaiz Thi Uss Ki Safaidi
Sada Ayi Ke “Main Hun Rooh-e-Taimoor

As the first gleam of daybreak, and a voice
Was heard:—“I am the spirit of Timur!

Agar Mehsoor Hain Mardan-e-Tatar
Nahin Allah Ki Taqdeer Mehsoor

Chains may hold fast the men of Tartary,
But Godʹs firm purposes no bonds endure

Taqaza Zindagi Ka Kya Yehi Hai
Ke Turani Ho Turani Se Mehjoor?

Is this what life holds—that Turaniaʹs peoples
All hope in one another must abjure?

‘Khudi Ra Souz-o-Ta Be Degare Dah
Jahan Ra Inqilabe Degare Dah”

Call in the soul of man a new fire to birth!
Cry a new revolution over the earth!”

17/11/2018

The Samarkand Kufic Quran (also known as the Uthman Quran, Samarkand codex, Samarkand manuscript and Tashkent Quran) is an 8th or 9th century manuscript Quran written in the territory of modern Iraq in the Kufic script. Today it is kept in the Hast Imam library, in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

In local Uzbek tradition, it is said to have belonged to the third caliph, Uthman ibn Affan.

Based on orthographic and palaeographic studies, the manuscript probably dates the 8th or 9th century. Radio-carbon dating showed a 95.4% probability of a date between 765 and 855.
