A new 3:21 minute VIDEO has been created capturing the activities at the Wanham Plowing Match (Saturday June 22nd).

The Wanham Plowing Match is held each year in Wanham, Alberta. There are a number of activities that happen through-out the 3 day event.

The new Chetwynd Library will open its new facility on June 24th after two years of construction. The 8,600 square foot facility cost $5.2 million and now provides storytelling space, children’s program room, teen seating area, maker space and virtual reality room, multi-purpose room and out door patio. It is located west of the skate park on the North Access Road in Chetwynd. The old library was over 50 years old. (photo: the concept design for the new Library)

June is Pride Month, a global celebration of the history, resilience and achievements of the 2SLGBTQ+ community. Members of the community gathered today to repaint the Rainbow Crosswalk located at the intersection of 103 Avenue and 98 Street, near City Hall Grande Prairie.

NPHL UPDATE: The North Peace Hockey League held its Annual General Meeting and voted the Fox Creek Knights to be part of the league for the 2024-2025 season. They will be in the NPHL East Division that will include the Manning Comets, Falher Pirates and Valleyview Jets. Also confirmed the West Division will include the FSJ Flyers, Dawson Creek Canucks, Grande Prairie Athletics and the Spirit River Rangers. It was confirmed that the High Prairie Regals would "not" be part of the league this year.

The Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony took place on Wednesday May 22nd for the South Peace Regional Archives who have moved to the lower level of the Centre 2000, 11330-106 Street, Grande Prairie. The South Peace Regional Archives gathers, preserves, and share records of Alberta’s South Peace River Region. These records come in various forms, including textual records, paper artifacts, photographs, maps, sound recordings, and film.

A new store will be opening soon in the former Modern Decore location along 100 Street Grande Prairie. Treasure Hunt Liquidations also has locations in Edmonton and Calgary and offer discounted products from a variety of major retailers across North America. Items include end of shelf life items, shelf pull items, customer return items, damaged pallet items, and overstock items.

After a number of months of renovations, U-Haul Moving and Storage has finally moved into the old Canadian Tire location (11311-99 Street). With more trucks and trailers parked in their parking lot, it appears it will be more of a U-Haul Super Centre with more truck rental options, more trailers, tow dollies, auto transports and more.

London Drugs in Grande Prairie has been closed since Sunday April 28, 2024 due to a Cybercrime, but is now open just for filling prescriptions at the Pharmacy and utilizing the post office. Staff are manning the door and escorting people to just those areas. Staff in Grande Prairie say they still don’t know when the rest of the store will be open.

London Drugs was a victim of Cybercrime and closed all their 79 stores on Sunday April 28, 2024. In its investigation, no evidence has been found that any customer databases were compromised, including those of pharmacy patients and LDExtras members databases. On Saturday May 4th, London Drugs in Western Canada began the gradual reopening of stores.

Congratulations to those in the Rycroft, Spirit River and area who were on hand last Saturday (April 20, 2024) for the Spring Break Up Fundraiser held in Rycroft to help furnish the inside of the new Spirit River Pleasant View Lodge. The event raised over $500,000 (estimated) for the Lodge which is an astounding amount. The Grand Opening of the Lodge will take place June 1st of this year.
