This place. I have walked by perhaps ten times… I guess today is just one of those days when you don’t want to take anything for granted. I walk in, it smells amazing , it’s funny the things we don’t notice even when they are right in front of our face. I order soup $1.87 cents, it looks amazing AND it comes with pita bread, yet still people go hungry here on the streets… it’s a wonderful thing to imagine everyone having $1.87 cents a day to have a bowl of soup. Peace ✌️

What caught my attention of this place was the little gramophones on the tables outside. I walked by … and turned around… and thought, uhhh , I should check this place out. Glad I did: full set up vinyl collection and player on big fancy speakers 🔊. Awesome. I love vinyl. Coffees are a bit more pricier here, but hey… we only live once right… or do we live multiple times . . . 🧐 Guess it depends on who you ask .

I’m @ this place having coffee. There was a dead man on the street a block from my apartment. I guess that’s normal here. Some one asked me “how are you doing?” And I wanted to say, “ well better than that guy…” too soon? No in all honesty I am very grateful and happy to be alive, could have been me. Living in a third world country makes you grateful for even the smallest of things that we can easily take for granted being in wealthier countries. That being said, poor countries are rich in culture and love and I am grateful to be here in Ukraine. WHEN LIFE GETS HARD, YOU GOTTA GET HARDER. Harder than life bro 😎

It’s like: Where the hell am I? Am I in Russia or am I in Ukraine? The answer is…well, it depends on who you ask.
I find myself in a peculiar situation. Little did I know that Russia considers many cities, including Odessa (the city in which I live in) to be part of Russia. So according to Russia I am technically living in Russia… but according to my home country, I am living in Ukraine. This partly explains my confusion upon arriving in Odessa, “Ukraine” and learning very quickly that most people speak Russian here and not Ukrainian. Here I am watching the Ukrainian soccer championship which is a match between Kiev the capital and a team from Donbas, which is currently at war. The team from Donbas cannot return to their homes, but continue to play in Ukraine…and are currently beating Kiev 3-0.

Welcome to Leviv

Nearly 14 hours later on the bus from Odessa, I have arrived in Leviv. First leg of the bus ride was interesting. Left the station at nearly 12 night after a lovely English for Russian language lesson with my beautiful host Olga. No hard feelings, but the lady sitting next to me was large. I used to think the airlines were crazy to charge overweight individuals for two seats, but now I understand why. 7 hours on a night bus while sitting on half a seat is not what I call luxurious. As I watched everyone else on the bus sleep comfortably, I listened to Fleet Fox on repeat, making the best of my half seat ride to the capital. Sun rises at half past five, passengers begin to stir. I get my first glimpse of the Ukrainian country side. STUNNING, in a word. Rich, thick forests and pristine lakes line the highway as the burning orange sun rises. I reach Lviv, first impression is "awesome". I reach the city center, second impression...even awesomer.

Privoz Market, the open air market is over 200 years old. When a tradition has stayed the same for over two centuries and is in the same location, you know the people there are doing something right. One building for domestic cheese and dried meats, One building for fresh domestic Ukrainian meats, an open air fish market, vegetables and fruits; all organic from farm to table, spices; fresh and organic. You can also find domestic products in the dry market ranging from basically anything you can think of.
