A lesser known but still interesting place in Saint Petersburg — the Feodorovskiy cathedral, constructed in 1913 to celebrate the tercentenary of the Romanovs. Disfigured and neglected during the Soviet time, recently it was restored and now is functioning again.
Unfortunately we don't normally see it during our city tour, but still there are a lot of other interesting places to see.

The Vorontsov Palace is not shown in our City tour, but it is beautiful and its history is amazing.
Constructed as a private palace of the chancellor of the Russian Empire, it passed later to the Malta order, than was occupied by the Page school, and, finally, became the military school. Unfortunately it is not open for public.
Nevertheless, there are a lot of other palaces that we show on our City Tour. Send this link to your friends if they are going to Saint-Petersbourg.

Caught the Sampson fountain working, although it was just a test. The sea is still frozen.

Yesterday was my last tour in Kronshtadt this year. The pedestrian tour ended at the embankment, and we were about to return back to the bus when we heard a signal of trumpet and the flags of the battleships were lowered and the lights switched on.
A good farewell!

Today Saint Petersburg faced a terrorist attack. The subway train was blown up between two central stations. Several people were killed, dozens were injured. The whole subway system, that carries three million people daily was closed for the investigation. The whole city got stuck in traffic jams.
My prayers are with the victims and the relatives, but there are a lot of things that fill me with inspiration and pride. Many volunteers brought the passengers by their cars. Gazprom offered the free fuel for them. The city public transport worked for free. Several taxi companies also worked for free. The toll highway running across the city also worked for free. The cafe chain, which I'm using myself, offered free tea for those who got stuck in the city center. The Aeroflot air company abolished the penalties for those who missed their flight because of traffic.
My city survived the terrible Siege during the WW2, and never surrendered. My predecessors survived and saved our cultural heritage, although it costed us a lot. Never will we surrender to anybody who brings violence and destruction.

The triumphal arch of the General Staff building, facing the Palace square. The architect Carlo Rossi redesigned the street, so that it could pass under the arch. That's why the street makes a slight turn. Rossi designed two arches instead of one, to mask the turn of the street.
