We recently traveled with an infant 👶 and toddler 👧(including a 6 hour delay that pushed an evening flight to the midnight flight), so we learned a few lessons this time around 🥴 Here are some top tips for getting to your flight ✈️ !
*Free check in for car seats - I checked in both our car seats at the ticket counter before boarding security. We were able to pad up the car seat with some diapers and clothes (however, I hear some airlines are cracking down on allowing anything extra in the car seat bag).
NOTE: most times you pick up your car seat and stroller bags at the oversized section instead of the belt. We waited until the last bag the first time we did that and learned our lesson quickly!
*Travel strollers - We use the MomPush travel stroller and love how well it folds, reclines, block the sun, and comes with a snack tray, rain cover and stroller bag (not an AD!). After many tries going through security at different airports, we found the easiest way is to take off the organizer and cup holder (and any chunky side items) and fold it up to scan like a bag - less wait and fuss! When you push it through for manual check you have to wait for someone to free up to manually scan.
*Speaking of going through security, TSA pre-check is SO helpful, but one thing that can help make your life more easy is taking out your milk/juice/breastmilk/formula water/ice and place in a separately to run through the scanner. Various airports AND even terminals do their checks very differently. Some make you open the container or milk boxes, some do an exterior only scan, some do a check of EVERYTHING and all bags your hold. To make it easier, have one person stay with the liquids-only bag for quicker security checks AND know what you’re allowed or not allowed to bring in!
*Always bring extra - such as diapers, snacks, clothes! You never know if you’ll be delayed for hours at the airport (and without vouchers or access to kiddie or baby things)!
