It’s time to cancel travel plans for the greater good. This is only the beginning and in our eyes it’s not worth putting yourself and others at risk. Not to mention there’s an increased chance of quarantines and border closings. Too many variables. Please listen to the experts and read up online about “flattening the curve”. Of course insane panic isn’t the answer, but neither is complacency. Stay safe out there friends!! Be smart and be prepared. This too shall pass...

A few clips from yesterday's festivities!

26/02/2020

Yesterday was Fat Tuesday so we went to the small village of San Martin Tilcajete to observe the famous Carnaval celebrations there and join the festivities! The fiesta includes dancing, live music, food, mezcal and fireworks. Men dress up as devils and paint themselves or roam the streets in wooden monster masks causing mischief. This is an old tradition that signifies evil before lent begins on Ash Wednesday.

Some snapshots over the last week from Day of the Dead (Día de Mu***os) here in Oaxaca. A popular Mexican holiday with roots in the pre-Columbian era, Aztec, and Catholic traditions. During this time it’s believed that the souls of the departed return to visit their families and loved ones. Locals make offerings (ofrendas) at home and return to cemeteries to clean and decorate graves while they await their return. It’s a happy time filled with music, mezcal, and memories. Children wear costumes, faces are painted, and parades march through the streets! We urge everyone to visit Mexico during this colorful festival at least once!

Traveling teaches you simplicity. Which is a useful way to live, because you get to do without!

When you do without the things, the comforts, and the people you know and love, suddenly you realize how lucky you are for everything you do have. You begin to appreciate relationships, connections, and experiences more than stuff.

You go home with fresh eyes, grateful and appreciative, for what you left behind. That is one reason why this traveling life is worth it! 💙
