This beautiful Art Deco architecture building, built in 1920’s, was the stage where the world was introduced to Elvis Presley. He performed on The Louisiana Hayride… a radio and then later a TV country music show.

On the wall in this memorial is 58,307 names etched who were either killed in action deemed MIA.. or taken prisoner of war. One of these names is the name Charles D. Sawyers… a friend of my father who gave his life in Vietnam.

On top of this beautiful building is the statue of “Freedom. “ She stands proud representing War and peace. An interesting note.. the man who figured out how to get the 5 pieces of this 15,000 lbs named “Freedom,” on top of the capital was an enslaved man. By the time it was finished, he was free but oh the irony..
The full size cast of it is located within the Capitol Building.

The steps leading up to this beautiful statue were intentionally made imposingly high so the memorial is lifted in the air.. so the climb feels like a struggle as u reach the heights.

The Library of Congress is the largest library in the world. Over 173 million items… over 100,000 comic books… oldest dates 1936. Unless you are a part of Congress, you cannot check books out though. If you are 16 and over you can use the library for research. The original library along with 3,000 books from Thomas Jefferson, were in the original Capital at one time. The British burned it down during war of 1812. It now houses more books from Thomas Jefferson as u can see…

184 benches each representing a victim of 9/11 at the Pentagon. Benches facing in 1 of 2 directions.. depending on if they were on the plane or if they were in the Pentegon. The Youngest being 3 years old. 😢
