WE ARE SO EXCITED IT'S LIVE 🤩 🤩 Our Fearless Leader and CEO, Steve, is too humble to write a post like this, so it gives me great pleasure to write this on his behalf without him looking.
In just a few short years, I've watched Steve courageously take his retirement into his own hands, knowing he didn't have the savings to sustain the life he'd imagined in retirement. At a little over 60 years of age, long past the societally perceived expiration date of "an old dog learning new tricks", Steve bet on himself, dipped into the modest savings he had and went to work, diligently learning the ins and outs of the modern STR models that current technologies afford in hospitality. Setback after setback he persisted, with high learning curves and long hours, while juggling his new business with the day job he dreamed of escaping. As if this wasn't enough, an unprecedented global pandemic had a devastating impact on the hospitality as traveling plummeted and people isolated, looking forward to adventuring again.
I remember coming to his house in the early days of Kozy Accommodations and seeing a printed piece of paper on the entry to his house that read "Steve will retire December 31, 2020". Long nights, weekends sacrificed to staging units, ordering consumables and stressful turnarounds without much cashflow to solve the problems of the early days, yet he kept it steady 💪💪💪
Steve didn't make the date on his first goal, but just shy of a year later, he retired: on December 1, 2021. As corny as the saying is, "shoot for the moon, and even if you miss, you'll land among the stars.", it's proven true in the origin story of Kozy. A little ways into the journey, Steve's son, Adam, who's a brilliant engineer by day and an automation guru by night, joined forces with his dad. Fast forward to today, and together they've developed Kozy into a business that has grossed over half a million dollar this year alone 😮 and shows no signs of slowing down.
It's been an honor to observe the two of them develop this business from an idea, to a plan, to a 6-figure business, that would not be where it is today without the dedicated teams (from maintenance and cleaning, to web, accounting and admin) who've believed in Steve's vision -- refining, supporting and executing, to build a family-run business that aspires to change the lives of many more.
