May 2015 NYC Events
May in New York City means outdoor entertainment. Take, for example, the acclaimed Shakespeare in the Park, free performances of the Bard's plays that have been staged at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park since 1962. This year fans can look forward to performances of The Tempest (starring Sam Waterston) and Cymbeline. Also on offer outdoors are Bronx Week (which actually spans 11 days), featuring parades, festivals, live music and more in celebration of the City's northernmost borough; soccer's New York Cosmos hosting the Ottawa Fury at MCU Park; and the Memorial Day Parade, signaling the unofficial start of summer in NYC. Other noteworthy happenings include the American Ballet Theatre's 75th Anniversary Celebration, the culinary delights on offer at the inaugural Harlem Eat Up and three monumental occasions—the debuts of the Peopling of America Center at the Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration, One World Observatory at One World Trade Center and the Whitney Museum of American Art's new Meatpacking District location.

Bjork:
The Icelandic artist formerly known as Björk Guðmundsdóttir receives a full-scale retrospective of her wide-ranging work, starting with, but by no means limited to, her seven full-length albums, the last of which, Biophilia, was accompanied by an acclaimed iPad app. Björk will take an active hand in the proceedings, co-writing a narrative ("both biographical and imaginatively fictitious") for the installation, which will chronicle her collaborations in film, video, photography and fashion and present an "immersive music and film experience" commissioned for the occasion. http://www.moma.org/visit/calendar/exhibitions/1501
