🟣 day 1 & 2: Kochi
Explore southern India’s Malabar coast on a 10-night trip through Kerala, an area known for its great climate and leisurely, slow pace. Kerala’s unique positioning between the Arabian Sea and the Western Ghats allow both plants and residents to burst with life, owing to its fertile soil and a laid-back vibe. You’ll begin in Kochi, a vibrant trading post where spices, coffee and wood have historically changed hands. After you’ve checked in to your hotel, enjoy a traditional dance performance in the evening.
After a restful first day, you’ll head out in the morning for a cooking demo with lunch at a local residence. In the afternoon, visit Mattancherry Dutch Palace, Jew Town and the Jewish Synagogue, St Francis Church (the oldest European church in India) and the Chinese fishing nets that are unique to this city.
🟣 day 3 & 4: Munnar
Today, you’ll travel to Munnar, a sublimely scenic hill station where cooler climes await. The region is a tapestry of tea plantations with colonial bungalows, tea factories, wildlife sanctuaries and lakes. Check in to your next hotel and spend the rest of the day as you wish.
On Day 4, you’ll visit India’s original tea museum, where you can learn about the journey from the manual tea roller to modern-day methods of harvesting. Afterwards, venture out of Munnar to visit the Mattupetty Dam, which sits at an altitude of 1,700 metres on the way up to Top Station - so expect glorious panoramic views of the green hills.
🟣 day 5 & 6: Periyar
A super-scenic drive is ahead of you today, to the highlands of Periyar, an area filled with wildlife ranging from elephants to bison to birds. Spend the rest of the day at leisure after checking into Cardamom County Resort, and enjoying your peaceful surroundings.
Wake up early on Day 6 for a nature walk, where a guide will lead you through the habitats of Thekaddyu to spot wildlife. In the afternoon you’ll visit an array of plantations, namely cardamom, cinnamon, pepper, coffee, and tea. Perhaps pick up some souvenirs, before spending the rest of day at leisure
🟣 day 7: Alleppey
After breakfast, you’ll travel to the backwaters of Alleppey for a traditional houseboat - or ‘kettuvallom’ experience. You’ll spend the night on board, cruising around the tranquil Venice of the East in true Keralan style
🟣 day 8 - 10: Marari
From Alleppey, you’ll drive less than an hour to your final seaside stay in the unassuming fishermen's village of Mararikulam. Your serene hotel sits steps from the pearly white sand of Marari Beach, amid 30 acres of coconut groves, lily ponds, fruit trees and a farm. Tune into yoga each morning, go peddle-boating or bike riding along beach roads, unwind with an Ayurvedic massage and revive yourself with superb organic cuisine
