Kazakhstan is more than breathtaking landscapes.
It’s a land where faith stood strong, where minarets rose along the Silk Road, and where scholars shaped generations.

These three sacred sites aren’t just places. They are stories. They are reflections. They are Kazakhstan’s past, standing tall in the present.

They are:

🏯 Zharkent Mosque – A mosque so unique, built in the style of a Chinese temple, standing as a testament to the Silk Road’s cultural crossroads. No nails, just ingenuity.

🕌 Almaty Central Mosque – A golden-domed sanctuary where modern faith meets deep-rooted tradition, set against the breathtaking Almaty mountains.

🏛 Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi – A UNESCO-listed masterpiece, left unfinished by Tamerlane, yet standing as a powerful symbol of the scholar who shaped centuries of wisdom.

And this is just the beginning. We’ll walk, reflect, and uncover the untold stories of Kazakhstan’s rich Islamic heritage.

Kazakhstan is a land of breathtaking contrasts. Snow-capped mountains meet endless steppes. Islam’s journey intertwined with the rhythms of nomadic life. 🏇🕌

Faith did not arrive by force. It travelled with merchants, scholars, and Sufi mystics along the Silk Road. Over time, it became woven into the traditions of the steppe. It blended seamlessly with the values of the nomads—honour, hospitality, and justice.

For those who seek more than just travel, this journey is about riding through history. It’s about connecting with the people who keep these traditions alive. Feeling the rush of horseback riding across the steppe. Training in archery like warriors of the past. And at the Khoja Ahmed Yassawi Mausoleum, reflecting on the legacy of those who carried faith to this land.

From the dunes of Altyn Emel to the warmth of a shared meal with Kazakh families, this journey invites you to live history, not just see it.

Are you ready?

Take your shot—comment 🏹 and we’ll send you the details!

Some places you visit. Others, you feel. The Mongolian steppe is the latter—a land where the wind decides your path, and the horizon never stops calling.

In Mongolia, life isn’t rooted to one place. It moves with the land, the seasons, and the animals. It’s a world where the sky is your ceiling, and home is wherever the journey takes you.

🏕️ The Mongolian steppe is more than just a landscape—it’s a way of life. Gers (yurts) rise and fall with the wind, packed up at sunrise, and rebuilt by sunset. Horses are not just transport but lifelines, guiding nomads through the vast wilderness. Out here, you don’t fight nature—you move with it.

🕌 Faith follows the journey. In Bayan-Ulgii, Mongolia’s Kazakh Muslims have upheld their traditions for generations. Their mosques stand firm, their prayers rise with the wind, and their hospitality is as vast as the land itself. A simple prayer mat on the steppe is all they need—because faith isn’t tied to a place, it travels.

🔥 Hospitality is sacred. Step inside a ger, and you’re not a visitor—you’re family. The fire crackles, milk tea is poured, and steaming plates of halal food are shared with warmth and generosity. Here, every meal is an invitation to slow down, to listen, and to be part of something timeless.

🦅 And then there are the hunters—the last of the eagle masters. High in the Altai Mountains, Kazakh nomads have trained golden eagles for centuries, forming a bond between man and bird that is impossible to explain, only to witness. These eagles aren’t pets—they are warriors, raised from birth to track prey across miles of untamed wilderness.

Most travellers come to Mongolia. Few ever get to live it—now you can.

Let’s make this the year we explore the world in a whole new way. No rushing around, no ticking off endless lists. We want to go deeper. To travel in a way that truly means something.

Picture this: slow mornings in quiet towns, where the call to prayer fills the air. 🕌 Sharing meals with people we’ve just met but already feel connected to. Walking through streets steeped in history, where every corner has a story waiting to be discovered.

It’s about rediscovering faith in the quiet moments. Prayers in new places that feel like home. The kind of experiences that remind us who we are and what truly matters. 🙏

And the food? It’s simple but unforgettable. Fresh, halal, locally sourced. Meals prepared with care by people proud to share their culture. It’s a way to connect, one bite at a time. 🍴

But it’s not just about us. We want this journey to leave something behind. To support local businesses, meet artisans, and make choices that uplift the communities we visit. Every step we take can make a difference.

Travel isn’t just about moving—it’s about connecting. With people, with stories, and with something greater than ourselves. Every destination is an opportunity to learn, grow, and experience the beauty of this world in ways we never imagined.

Does this sound like you? Find the destination you’d love to explore in our bio or join the HTG community today. Let’s travel with heart and purpose—together. 🌍✨

Uzbekistan wasn’t just a trip—it was love at first bite. ❤️🍴 🇺🇿

The flavours were bold. The spices hit just right. And every dish felt like it was made with heart and soul. From the first spoonful of soup to the last smoky skewer, we couldn’t stop eating. Every bite was like a new discovery—tender, rich, and unforgettable.

The Plov? A masterpiece of flavours with every grain perfectly spiced. The Lagman? Warm, hearty perfection. And don’t even get us started on the juicy dumplings, herby green noodles, and smoky, charred skewers. It was a feast we didn’t want to end.

We loved the food so much, we had to drop a Halal food guide for you. Seriously, it’s that good. This is the food guide you just have to taste for yourself. 😍 Find the full Halal food guide on our blog—link in bio.

And if you’re tempted to taste it all yourself, our next trip to Uzbekistan could be just around the corner. Check it out on our website.

Today marks 29 years since the massacre of thousands of Muslim men and boys in the “protected” town of Srebrenica. On 11th July 1995, Serb General Ratko Mladic ordered his army to separate men and boys from women and girls. The women and their daughters were sent away on buses. The men were kept behind in Srebrenica. Most of them were never reunited with their families.

It’s estimated that 8373 unarmed Bosnian Muslim men and boys were killed in only a few days in July 1995.

The United Nations peacekeeping mission, led by the Netherlands, failed to protect the people they had promised to keep safe. They failed to stop the ethnic cleansing of thousands of unarmed Bosniak men and boys. UN petrol was even used to fuel transport of men and boys to the killing fields and bulldozers to plough the corpses into mass graves.

To this day, the remains of those murdered in Srebrenica are still being found. Today, 14 more victims will finally be buried and laid to rest, 29 years after they were murdered.

Today we humbly ask that you remember them all - the martyrs, survivors and their families - in your prayers.

Al Fatiha 🤲🏼

🙂Some of you have been curious about whether we’ve continued our trips to Jordan and the answer is, YES! We’ve run two trips to Jordan 🇯🇴 in the last 6 months and, alhamdulillah, both have run very smoothly. It’s worth noting that there is a high proportion of Palestinians working in the tourism and hospitality industry in Jordan, so a well-planned trip there can benefit the local community.

Our next trips are late October and December insha Allah, so if you’re keen to join, head over to our 🔗link in bio🔗.

Nazeefah recently joined us this month all the way from South Africa 🇿🇦, and here’s a little snippet of what she has to say about the experience:

“Jordan was breathtaking and completely surpassed my expectations...The full day at Petra was a real highlight and I appreciated that we had enough time to explore it as we saw fit. Another favourite was our day and night in Wadi Rum. The free stargazing experience that Ahmed, the owner of Rum Planet Camp, arranged for us was otherworldly. He pointed out the stars and constellations to us with such care and enthusiasm it felt like we were in the open-air classroom of a beloved teacher!

Traveling with a group of ladies was inspiring and the camaraderie was wonderful. I was apprehensive as a solo traveler but I very quickly realised that my worries were unfounded when I met the rest of the ladies. I am really pleased and grateful that I had the opportunity to travel with HTG and I would recommend them wholeheartedly.”

Thank you Nazeefah for joining us from the Rainbow Nation, a country we feel very proud of for its stance on the right side of humanity 🇿🇦🤝♥️🇵🇸

“When I was a child, my parents told me about what happened in Bosnia in the 90s”, says Assad, who recently travelled from Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 to join us in Bosnia 🇧🇦.

“Since then this country has always stuck in my head. Alhamdullilah, I managed to get some time off work to visit this amazing country and wouldn’t have chosen any other company to go with. Halal Travel Guide have years of experience and that was evident throughout the course of the trip. They focus on real life story telling which impacts your heart greatly. I’ve been with many tour companies before and they are usually very demanding with lots in the itinerary.

However, HTG had the perfect balance which me and my wife loved. Soumayya, Salma and Nedim were absolutely excellent and I couldn’t have asked for better guides.

Thank you HTG for organising this trip and I hope to be back with you in the near future InshAllah.”

Thank you Assad 🥲

- I’ve been thinking a lot about what travel means for us as Muslim women.

(Brothers reading this, stay with me - there’s something here for your beloved mum/wife/sister/aunt).

It’s about so much more than just seeing new places; it’s about feeling at ease in our surroundings, knowing we can pray peacefully, enjoying meals that fit our dietary needs, and wearing our hijab or burkini without a second thought. It’s about the safety and understanding that makes a journey truly restful and enriching.

It’s also about learning more about ourselves and our heritage - connecting with inspiring stories from our Islamic heritage across Bosnia and Uzbekistan, to many more places in between.

And it’s precisely why we’ve created our ladies-only trips. We’ve considered everything you might worry about and turned them into opportunities for comfort, discovery, and spiritual connection.

Travelling is about discovering the world and ourselves. Let’s make those discoveries together.

Our Story

It all started back in 2015, when our founder Soumaya Hamdi embarked on a road trip through South-East Asia (Singapore --> Malaysia --> South Korea --> Japan). With husband and reluctant baby in tow, the young family explored up and down the region, searching for the best in authentic halal food and Muslim-friendly travel experiences. With a notepad and pen in one hand, and trusty heavy-duty camera in the other, Soumaya began to make notes of places and travel tips…and this is how the earliest version of Halal Travel Guide was born. From the very beginning, our aim has been to encourage Muslims to seek the less-travelled path, and to make this easier by creating networks with locals who can share their expertise with us and, therefore, with you.
