The warmer weather this week might have you dreaming of time beside the lake. The Beach Island Resort on Norris Lake is a popular spot. On April 16th, the restaurant, Boat House at 33 (formerly Bubba Brews) opens for a new season.

Many of the rivers that feed into the 9 Lakes of East Tennessee are great for Winter Trout Fishing. Places like tailwaters of Cherokee Dam on the Holston River, the Clinch River below Norris Dam and places like Citico Creek and Tellico River in the Cherokee National Forest are all popular trout fishing areas.

Know the rules before you go:
Along the Clinch River:
Norris Dam, downstream to Hwy. 61 bridge, including tributaries
•14–20 inch PLR on all trout
•Seven (7) trout creel limit, only one (1) trout may be greater than 20 inches.

Tellico River:
From its confluence with Turkey Creek upstream to the Tennessee-North Carolina state line and Citico Creek from its confluence with Little Citico Creek upstream to the confluence of North and South Forks of Citico Creek.

•Permit required from March 1 through Aug. 15.
•Closed on Thursday and Friday during the period March 1 through Aug. 15 (except when national or state holidays fall on Thursday and Friday).
•From Aug. 16 through the last day of February fishing is allowed every day and Tellico-Citico Permit is not required.
•Daily creel limit of seven (7) trout, with no size limit.
•Fishing is permitted from 30 minutes before official sunrise to 30 minutes after official sunset.

Enjoy a slice of pizza or a deli sandwich in the shadow of one of the state's most notorious prisons. Parolee's Pizza and Deli is open now at Brushy Mountain. It's open Wednesday through Sunday now with plans to open 7 days a week starting in March.

At this time, the prison and the Warden's Table Restaurant are closed. They will reopen in April. Also mark your calendars for the 2025 Overland Camping Event happening at Brushy March 28 - 30.

Did you know there's a stop along the U.S. Civil Rights Trail here in the 9 Lakes region? Clinton is home to the Green McAdoo Cultural Center and Museum. Set inside an old school building, this venue tells the story of the Clinton 12, the first African-American students to integrate a state supported high school in the South.

In addition to the bronzed statues, you'll find exhibits on how the events of 1956 and beyond shaped this community along the Clinch River. That includes an exhibit on the bombing of Clinton High School.

Integration of public schools in the South began even earlier in nearby Oak Ridge, TN where the Scarboro 85 started at all-white schools the year before. At that time, Oak Ridge Schools were federally managed. Efforts are underway in the Secret City to better tell the story of these students. Explore Oak Ridge

While we're known for our lakes, we have waterfalls and cascades too! Triple Falls in Campbell County is a popular spot. The trail in and out is about 2-miles long.

The Obed National Scenic River is another place to catch some water wonders. In addition to the falls along the river itself, the park also has many mountain streams where you can catch glimpses of captivating cascades.
