My home in Cape Charles is now available for vacation rental! I purchased this home in 2010 and have put a lot of love into it and have made wonderful memories here over the years. As my kids are getting older and we are able to go less often, it’s time to let other families enjoy it . The home is 5 bedrooms and 3 full baths. Check out the link in my bio for details.

Please check out and consider donating to the school project. Approximately 5,000 Rosenwald Schools existed across the country, primarily for the education of African-American children in the south during the early 20th century. The Cape Charles Rosenwald school, vacant for many years, sits just south of the town harbor. This school is an important part of Cape Charles history. The project is aiming to restore this beautiful building, creating a place for education and community gathering. Check them out, consider donating to their efforts. 🌅 🌊

The skeletal remains of the dock and boat ramp, at the site of the former Coast Guard Station Cobb Island (a.k.a. Cobb Island Station), Cobb Island, Eastern Shore of Virginia. In May of 1998, The Nature Conservancy contracted to have the station moved off the island to its present location, eight miles west, in Oyster, Virginia.

One of our favorite places on the Shore

This little strip of land bordering the Chesapeake Bay is loved by many. This is Savage Neck, bound to the north by The Gulf, the south by Cherrystone Creek and to the West by the Chesapeake Bay. Looking at the northern end, closest to the camera, is Smith Beach, a small community of primarily summer homes bordering the Chesapeake Bay and wrapping around the northern tip and up along The Gulf. Moving south is Wilkins Beach, Tankards Beach, and the Savage Neck Dunes State Natural Area Preserve.

It is with great gratitude we are able to announce that, Brown Dog Ice Cream, has had a change in ownership.

Miriam Wagner, began Brown Dog in 2012 and built it into one of the best Ice Cream shops in the entire state. Her dedication, attention to detail, and uncompromising approach to quality ingredients, were the main factors beyond her beloved dog Foster.

Brown Dog has had a tremendous impact on the Cape Charles community and for all who have visited and worked there.

That's why when I got a call in January from Miriam, who's life has now taken her back to her home in New Jersey, it didn't take much convincing to want to be involved.

Most importantly we discussed what Brown Dog meant beyond Ice Cream. The core values of business, and how we both had mutual respect for beginning cornerstone business here in Cape Charles, over ten years ago.

It was this conversation that lead to the belief that if we had an opportunity to be a part of maintaining this brand, it would be an honor.

Putting together a team that included some of the best people who have been an important part of our success at The Shanty and Deadrise, Reggie Harmonson, Guadalupe Alejandro and Adam Travis was a no brainer to make sure Brown Dog was maintained in the right hands.

Our focus when it comes to this transition is simple. Don't mess up a great thing, take care of the people who have been there and made it excellent, try to do the best we can for the community, and stay true to Miriam's vision.

I want to finish by just saying thank you to Miriam, we wouldn't have this opportunity without you. And also to Heather Guagenti, who has maintained that vision and will continue on with us!

We look forward to opening the doors back up and welcoming you all back for another season on Saturday April 15th!

Sincerely,

Jon Dempster

We received this cool picture from one of the Scientists at Virginia Institute of Marine Sciences, Stacy Krueger. She poured the beer into the sea as a ritual offering to the Celtic sea god, Shoney, before submitting a grant proposal. According to the legend, this sacrificial offering beer will bring good luck to those who wish to be blessed by the sea. We are suckers for a good story and this beer, so we wanted to share!

Grab a 4-pack of your favorite beer for your next adventure!

We are in the thick of summer here on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. The lack of posting lately is simply because we are busy with customers at the gallery and at North Street Market. This is a top down early evening view of the Cape Charles beach on July 4th, had to be record crowds in town enjoying the beautiful day. I will do my best to keep the posts coming. Have a wonderful summer!
