The bad news: you can’t rent either of them. 😎 One belongs to Nena, one belongs to Mary.

Pretty but deady 😘 the Sacred Datura flowers are in full bloom at the park.

All parts of these flowers are poisonous, and you may miss their showiness if you're only looking for them during the day because they are usually only open during late afternoon through early mornings. At night, they are pollinated by sphinx moths, a common nocturnal pollinator for desert plants.

TRAFFIC TESTS THIS WEEKEND

To help test the alleviation of traffic, on Friday, July 5 and Saturday, July 6 our Police and Public Works team will be conducting traffic tests at the Y and in Uptown, and on Saturday, July 6 at the new Pedestrian Crossing at Oak Creek. Staff will be monitoring and testing certain traffic scenarios at the Y and crosswalks in Uptown as congestion ramps up. Also, for the first time, we will test the use of the Pedestrian Crossing at Oak Creek, while closing the current street level crossing in front of the shopping areas. We are planning an official opening of the pedestrian crossing in the coming weeks, but because the undercrossing is substantially complete, it is possible to test its use this weekend.

Monitoring and testing will occur generally between the hours of 11:00 am - 6:00 pm and involve brief interruptions to vehicle and pedestrian traffic at various locations within the Uptown and 179 Business Districts.

Results of these tests will be shared at the SIM update to City Council at their 3:00 pm meeting on Wednesday, July 10.

PROTECT YOUR PETS

As temperatures begin to rise, please keep in mind that your dog's paws can be as sensitive as your bare feet.

Just imagine how hot a parked car can get.

Beautiful hiking weather for the rest of the week, with temperatures moderating down by 10 degrees starting Thursday. Sedona Fire has been busy on the trail systems with various calls for service. Simple ankle injuries are one of the most common calls for service. A good pair of hiking boots goes a long way to prevent injury. Always have a charged phone, know which trailhead you are departing from, and have plenty of water.

“Why does Schnebly Hill Road get closed so much in the winter?” That’s one of our most asked questions.

First, Schnebly climbs in elevation almost 2,000 feet, so its higher elevation means more snow than in town.

Second, much of it runs along the north-facing slope of the canyon which means it doesn’t get a lot of sun in the road in the winter = slow or no melting.

Third, it’s a high traffic trail, so, unfortunately, once a couple of vehicles drive on the fresh powder, it packs down and becomes a solid sheet of ice, often before the USFS has a chance to close the gate. So, instead of a few days to melt, it takes weeks. That’s why, on busy weeks, they may shut the gate BEFORE a big storm comes in and either traps people in there or leads to the packed ice condition from vehicles driving on it.

Also, many people aren’t aware that the upper gates are closed all winter anyway, and only the bottom four miles of trail have a chance to be open at all as trail and weather conditions permit.

Know before you go! Check with the Red Rock Ranger District website or call us for the most up to the minute conditions. 928-282-8700

See reel on some of the work has been doing to try to keep this road open for 4x4 use.

Sedona Jeep Rentals

Explore the wonders of Sedona, AZ with a full or multi-day Jeep rental! Sedona Jeep Rentals provides new, top-of-the-line Jeep Wranglers from Barlow Adventures, perfect for exploring the spectacular backcountry of Sedona and the Southwest. Our outstanding and experienced staff will also prepare you for a fun, safe, and enjoyable excursion by providing you with trail maps, driving tips, area information, and operating instructions. Whether you are new to Jeeps and unpaved roads, or an experienced 4-wheeler, Barlow Jeep Rentals will help you plan your excursion for maximum enjoyment.

Jeep Tours are one of the most widely sought Sedona activities, but some people prefer to go where they want to go, when they want to go, and at their own pace. That’s where Sedona Jeep Rentals comes in—doing your own self-guided Jeep tour is more convenient at your own relaxed pace, and saves you money too! You can drive a new Jeep Wrangler Rubicon for a half-day through Sedona’s 4×4 jeep trails for less money than taking a two-hour Jeep tour for two people. Our Jeeps seat up to 5, so families can really save.

Owner Nena Barlow grew up in the Southwest, exploring the back roads by Jeep, horse, and hiking boots. She has been in the Jeep business since 1996, providing tours, 4wd instruction, location scouting, offroad event planning, trail mapping & photography, and recovery. Nena is a certified Master Trainer by the International 4wd Trainer Association. This is not a weekend job--this is what we DO!

All of the staff at Barlow Adventures are passionate about what they do. Nobody knows Jeeping better! We specialize in helping visitors find the right trails for them, and instructing them in how to use the Jeep easily and safely, wherever they may choose to go. We are not just “turning you loose”—we are available to help or answer questions every step of the way. We love to hear all about your adventures when you come back, too. And don’t forget to send us your pictures!
