Manuel Antonio - the final stop of the honeymoon

This place was beautiful!! The beach was stunning and far less crowded and busy than Tamarindo. There are plenty of restaurants and shops. It is a little bit less walkable but still likely to have atleast a few restaurants in walking distance to your accommodation.

Manuel Antonio National Park is very cool to check out. Doing a tour with a guide is a must so you can see way more wildlife than you’d be able to find yourself! We saw sloths, toucans, a crocodile, plenty of monkeys, and more! Surfing is also really popular in this area. It really blew us away! I would also recommend this area for any type of traveler 🦜

Arenal Volcano National Park - La Fortuna

This area is a very popular tourist area so I didn’t fully know what to expect (nervous it was overrated) but it was absolutely dreamy!! The tropical rainforest was so lush and beautiful. When the volcano made an appearance from the clouds it was breathtaking. There are numerous adventurous activities to partake in such as ziplining, rafting, rappelling, kayaking, paddle boarding, hiking, and more. The hot springs in the area are amazing. We also did a coffee and chocolate tour which was awesome. La Fortuna waterfall is incredible but definitely worth it to go early to beat the crowds.

The town of La Fortuna had a lot of restaurants and shops to check out. Everything was within a 10 minute drive and Ubers were readily available and inexpensive. Numerous excursions do hotel pick up in this area so it felt very easy to get around without a car. They have hotels from luxury to budget friendly in the area so it caters to different budgets. It is also a great place for families, couples, friends, solo travelers, etc.

I would definitely recommend 🌋

First stop of our Costa Rica honeymoon: Tamarindo

It’s a very vibrant and lively surf town. It definitely caters to couples and a friends trip as opposed to families. There’s a lot of shops, restaurants, bars, cafes, and more to check out. It’s very walkable. It’s definitely busy which means there are more people approaching you and asking to buy what they are selling but they kindly back off after the first ‘no’. There is a big night life scene here. 3 nights felt like the perfect amount of time!

Top highlights: Surf lesson & Catamaran day - it was also the best food we had on the trip

Things to be aware of: restaurants on the beach ask tourists if they’d like to add a tip without disclosing their standard 10% is already included in the bill so just be aware and decline if you’d like to!

Japan is all the hype right now so let’s talk about it!

Japan shut down to tourists for two years during the pandemic. They were one of the last countries to open back up so the demand has been so high. I had the privilege of traveling there in July for 12 days and here is my hot take:

It is an awesome country to check out! I felt like Japanese culture was so fun with fake dragons and giant crabs coming out of the walls at restaurants. They had cool stores like fake food store where I bought a sushi key chain. They just had things that I have never seen or heard of so it was extra fun to explore. There are also fascinating castles, palaces, shrines, and temples to check out. We also went to Hiroshima for the day, which of course was such an impactful experience. I went to Osaka, Kyoto, and Tokyo. Next, I want to check out the mountains and beaches!

Expectations:

•It is a cash heavy economy still, it’s important to have yen on you
•It is difficult to find vegetarian/vegan food options. Most oils, sauces, and dishes have some type of fish and meat in it. I would be extra careful if you have a serious allergy as well.
•It is crowded, however it feels very safe. You can definitely move with more ease than traveling in Paris, Rome, etc.
•There are many places that require you to take off your shoes when you enter so be mindful and wear easy slip off shoes if you’d like
•English isn’t commonly spoken so I would recommend having some Japanese under your belt. A lot of restaurants had I-Pads to order from which was helpful
•The trains are such an efficient way to get around
•It’s important in Japanese culture to be silent on the trains. It’s looked at as rude to have conversations via phone or with each other.

Overall, I would recommend checking out Japan! Is Japan on your bucket list?

I’ve been a bit more radio silent on here than I hoped for but it’s because I just got married! Life has been extra busy so I am truly sorry. On that topic, everyone has been asking me… “Where are you going on your honeymoon?”

I am not one to gatekeep… We are going to Costa Rica and so excited! Keeping my husband’s travel preferences in mind it was the perfect place for us to go and here’s why:

We really wanted a tropical destination
We wanted a mix of relaxation, adventure, and exploring another culture
We wanted a place where we could get a bit more luxurious accomodations for a reasonable price point
Costa Rica is overall a very safe destination to explore freely off a resort
29 national parks with many jungle landscapes to explore and choose from
Stunning and secluded beaches
The wildlife - monkeys, sloths, toucans, whales, turtles, dolphins, etc.
The culinary- I cannot wait to explore so many local restaurants, seaside bars, breweries, coffee and chocolate establishments
Adventure- so many opportunities to paddle board, hike, kayak, go on a catamaran, surf, ATV, waterfall hop, zip lining, hot springs and more

We are specifically going to the areas of Tamarindo, Arenal Volcano National Park, and Manuel Antonio National Park!

If you’re considering Costa Rica I am happy to dive into more specifics with you!

Why do I recommend staying in Sorrento?

1. It’s more accessible to get to/from Sorrento than Amalfi and Positano
- Typically, people want to see 3 to 4 places in Italy within one trip so they need to be able to travel around easily. Sorrento is a one hour train ride from Naples and 3 hours total by train from Rome. Amalfi and Positano are an additional bus ride or ferry trip from there so it adds extra travel time.
2. It’s a beautiful place to stay for half the price
- Amalfi and Positano are very expensive places to stay in. People often think they want to stay there until they see the price points. Sorrento has so much to offer and it provides more affordable accommodations than the other two areas.
3. The perfect place to tour!
- You can easily take a 20 minute boat ride to the Island of Capri from the port of Sorrento. The majority of tours such as, visiting a lemon grove farm in Amalfi, boat tour of the Amalfi Coast, and more start in Sorrento.
-Sorrento is also an easily walkable city with plenty of restaurants, cafes, and sites to check out.

Don’t get me wrong… Amalfi and Positano are fabulous places to check out and stay! They may be a better fit than Sorrento depending on the client’s needs and interests. All I am saying is do not overlook the stunning town of Sorrento!

They do say time is of the essence ☺️
