Did you know there was a lava field in Idaho? We had no idea!!

Craters of the Moon National Monument was so interesting!! It's a vast ocean of lava flows with scattered islands of cinder cones and sagebrush.

We tried something new in Butte, MT. For the first time we stayed in a Bed and Breakfast. We've always loved the idea, but the thought of sharing a bathroom has always been a deterrent.

Enter Copper King Mansion. It's a historic mansion (yes, please) AND a Bed and Breakfast. My love of old houses won out and we gave it a whirl. And it was amazing.

The house was beautiful but Erin, the owner, made it extra special. She grew up in Butte, left and came home to run the Bed and Breakfast. And she was awesome. We enjoyed listen to her stories and hearing about the history of Butte.

A tour was included with our stay and it was fantastic. Erin's family (3rd generation owner, but not the original family) did a fantastic job of finding period pieces to fill the house when the 2nd owner sold everything at auction.

Check out the shower... it still works!! And I braved it. What a crazy experience. It shoots water EVERYWHERE!! If you ever have a chance to use one, do it.

Prehistoric hunters who camped in Pictograph Cave left behind artifacts and over 100 pictographs, or rock paintings. The oldest rock art in the cave is over 2,000 years old.

Only a small number of pictographs are viewable today, but it was amazing to think of how old they are.

Mt Rushmore was awesome. We took a scenic drive on Iron Mountain Highway and got some awesome views of the presidents. The ground along the highway sparkled like we'd never seen. See last video for an up close view of the rocks that caused the ground to sparkle.

The Badlands were spectacular. I came into this leg of the trip knowing very little of what to expect. And I was not disappointed. We hiked the Notch Trail and saw breathtaking views. The wooden ladder in the pics was part of the trail. My short legs didn't love coming down that, but it was worth it!

The last picture is from the Castle Trail, where we saw a castle, Badlands style.

When we went to Ireland we spent a lot of time in churches. They were spectacular. So when we saw this church was America's first Basilica we knew it wouldn't disappoint.

The umbrella (umbraculum) and bell (Tintinnabulum) are both used to signify the status of Basilica

We spent an evening in Minneapolis, unknowingly REALLY close to the site where George Floyd was killed. So, I had to explore a bit the next day. It was very sobering to walk the area. Out of respect, I didn't take pictures of the full area, but its somewhere I won't forget.
