The Hadapsar Gliding Centre in Pune is where you can turn your dream of flying like a bird into reality. And don't worry, you will not have to shell out a fortune for it. The gliding centre at Hadapsar offers you the joy of gliding at only ₹187.
There are about four to five certified pilots who take passengers for gliding rides. Apart from that, the centre also offers a learning course, which a trainee can complete in about two to 12 months.
Let me tell you how the process works over there:
Its open for general public only on Sunday’s , so you have to go there on Sunday.
There is a queue system, so the earlier you go the higher the probability of you getting a chance to fly.
I reached there at 5:30 and I was the 1st person over there. 3 People came after me at around 6. By 7 am, there were around 20 people over there.
We made a list of people on paper, based on first come basis. After that some of us left to have breakfast. It’s compulsory to be there before 9 am, when the staff comes there and opens the office. If they don’t see you, you are out of the list.
Door opened at 9 am, I was given the 1st token. After that its up to you, if you want to stay there or leave. If your no. is after 10 or so, you can leave for at least next 3 hours or so. They gave tokens to only 1st 20 people, rest were put on a waiting list.
The pilot came there around 11 am, and once they confirm that flying is possible based on the weather and wind, then you have to make the payment and you are given the receipt after which you go for flying.
Depending on how many pilots are there, the numbers will move around quickly or slowly.
My flight was at around 11:30. The weather wasn’t great and so my flight time was only around 2 minutes 30 seconds. Yes, its that short actually, but it was interesting and fun since I got to meet so many new people and had fun interacting with them.
The price was only Rs. 187 which is way cheap and hence there is a huge turn around for people to fly.
