Maine Adventure Saturday with the Cousin Crew

This past weeks adventures included a short hike through some very well maintained, flat, kid-friendly and BEAUTIFUL trails at Ecotat Gardens and Arboretum and then a trip to Jackson’s Beach, right up the road, where we were planning to “dip our toes in” to cool off... but ended up jumping off the dock and swimming for a couple of hours!

Both locations are super kid friendly, no fees to enter AND we had 3 extra very little ones with us today who enjoyed them just as much! Worth the trip to Hermon to spend the day!

Today’s adventure took us to Bass harbor head lighthouse trail and then, just up the road to wonderland trail!

Bass harbor lighthouse trail, while beautiful, was very short and not exactly what we expected. We only ended up staying about 15 minutes or so and in that time, got to see pretty much all there was to offer! A nice stop, possibly for a picnic or some scenic views/photos.. and of course to see the lighthouse! But not necessarily a hike.

Wonderland trail, however, wow!! Can we say beautiful?! A nice, easy hike on a beautiful trail which opens up to a sandy beach with plenty of opportunities to explore, climb rocks and dip your toes in the ocean! Well worth the drive and a wonderful, kid-friendly place to spend the day outdoors!

Today’s adventure will be a place we visit again and again! It was quiet and secluded and really beautiful! The beach was super cute. We had a blast skipping rocks and dipping our toes in the water! We had a nice picnic on the beach before taking off on the most lovely hike! The beach is mostly gravel... and we wished we had water shoes, crocs or sandals rather than just our sneakers and bare feet to make it easier to play at the beach. We’ll be sure to have them next time! Even without them, we had a wonderful time! The hike was mostly flat, very well marked and easy to navigate, beautiful views and quite easy for all of us. The most difficult part was that there were long sections of raised boards over the wet areas and our younger kiddos had a hard time balancing on them for such long distances at times. We did the “amazon trail loop” which was just a little over a mile 🙂
All in all... a day very well spent at Sandy Point Beach in Stockton Springs 💜💙

We LOVED this place! It was very easy to find, plenty of parking too! Lots of easy, yet beautiful and well-marked trails to enjoy. We did a couple of different trails since they weren’t super long. About 1 3/4-ish miles round trip for both trails. Several great places along the way to wander off the beaten path a bit and explore for the kiddos! I, personally, love a loop trail where I end up where I started and that’s what we found here! This option is close to home for us and so we’ll definitey be back... but even if it was a jaunt, it would be a day well spent!

Adventure #1

Barred Island Preserve!

This was such an amazing first adventure for all the kiddos! The hike was totally doable for all of them, and they are ages 6-12! At the end of the hike you come out to a breathtakingly beautiful beach with ocean on both sides, and plenty of rocks for climbing and exploring!

If you want to plan an amazing day trip, this would be a great choice. However, make sure you check the tide schedule for the day, as when the tide comes in it covers the beach!
