Apologies to all the ducks and swans of Pembroke, this year i wanted to get out again and continue this mad little enterprise however life this summer has been very unpredictable and i have not had the chance to even think about starting this back up, i had every intention of doing so however sometimes things crop up you have no control over.

Im going to keep this page open as i would love to continue this little project not for really any monitory reason as i was never going to pay my mortgage off with this but because i enjoyed meeting people around the millpond, talking with locals and tourists alike.

Hopefully next year i will get back out there with my blue cart (whos still going somehow) untill then, the pet emporium in town sells bags of duck food, the very same stuff i sold and not only does thay help local business it helps feed the wildfowl of the Pembroke waterways with nutritious food.

I broke it to them gently 🫡

SINCE THE DEATH OF HER MAJESTY QUEEN ELIZABETH II it has fallen upon one man to inform all the swans in Pembroke milpond that they are now the Kings birds.

Duck Food Dave duck and swan feed at the Millpond Pembroke has been drafted in by royal commission to inform all swans and birds under royal protection that they are now under the protection and ownership of his majesty King Charles III.

Duck Food Dave has been telling all the birds by royal duck food decree and by duck call, the swans have all dunked their heads in compliance with the royal decree and have solemnly vowed to hiss at anyone feeding them co-op basic white loaf.

I am still not out and about selling duck food, im still not at my best, mental health is not something i deal with easily, id rather walk around the milpond with a broken arm and leg than the irrational feeling like i need to setup landmines in my garden incase the Russian invade 😬 genuine anxiety is that irrational went to the beach and got paranoid about tsunamis... Which is quite funny when you think about it as Im more likely to catch bird flu from a rouge swan.

I'd like to thank a lot of people who around the pond that spoke to me and the business owners who kept me fed and watered when i was down there i shall tag you in this post as a thanks.

I have no idea if i will be out again this summer, i am trying everything i can to "be normal" (and those who know me will know that will never happen 😝)but if i am i will post here.

Wont lie haven't been out and about in nearly a week now, weather hasn't helped and also my mental health has taken a nosedive in the last week (which is slightly ironic as i was doing this to help my mental health lol) my anxiety has gone from a 5/10 to a 36/10 and just not feeling my best because of it

I may not be out and about until early next week perhaps Tuesday as on Monday I'm the bestman at a wedding.

In the mean time if you still want to feed the ducks and swans with top quality food Pembroke Pet Emporium just up the road from the post office sells the same food i do and they do a great deal per bag.

Retired early today, wasn't anyone about so decided to go home and feed my own ducks instead 😂

Judging by the weather forecasts i may not be out until Thursday next week but this is Pembrokeshire, only real way to know what's going on with the weather is to stick your head out the window and look.

A couple of my mates down here at the castle milpond.. the European water vole A.K.A the common water rat.

These are related to the brown rat apart from these look cuddly and fluffy compared to the brown rat (id advise against giving them a cuddle though)

They are an essential part of a waterways eco system, they will scavenge food from any source available however they will eat and dispose of any wildlife that has died, eggs that have failed to hatch also pest insects that find their way in and around ponds/rivers etc.

Dont be afraid of them they are one million percent more afraid of you and will normally hide as soon as you are spotted

(Apart from these two which i snuck up on with my 20x zoom on my camera 😝)

Great day on the milpond today nearly ran out of food! Will stock more for the rest of the week.

If you dont want some duck food if i ask if you wish to feed the ducks you can just say no...

The strange responses i get are quite funny though, for example.

"I feed them at home thanks"... Well great but i wont tell the ducks you feed at home you fed them in Pembroke too 😬

"I dont believe in feeding ducks and swans" ok but im sure they believe in eating, its not really a theological debate its just duck food mate 🤦

"What if they attack me?!?" Not sure you realize you are bigger than ducks and even if they bite you they dont have teeth 🤷

Its all fun and games down by the milpond 😁😁 ill be there from 10:30 (ish) untill about 4pm

Looks like weather has decided to be a little bit better today, original forecast was for rain most of the day but now its not so i shall be out and about around the millpond and castle waterways with plenty of food for the wildfowl.

Well busy week for me around Pembroke, had to get a new wheel with thanks to Morris Brothers for getting it sorted for me (i know i wouldnt have had the quick direct service from trespass or mountain wearhouse like i had from them, always shop local folks)

Got myself a basic first aid kit, mostly for me because i will always find a way to injure myself, but im stocked up with plasters, blister tape and insect sting pads just in case.

Wont be back out until Tuseday now because of the rain (and my legs refuse to work properly after a week of walking😂) always happy to stop and talk not just sell duck food so feel free to flag me down if you see me about.

As i wont be out and about for two days because of the heat, i thought id do a little post on other things you can feed ducks and swans that are not only good for them but most of you will have in your house or can be found wild or grown.

Peas: every day normal frozen peas, defrost them and you can give them to the ducks and swans great source of nutrients and strangely enough cheaper than bread!

Berries: ducks and swans can eat soft berries such as raspberries blackberries and even blueberries.

Sweetcorn: you can buy tinned or frozen (as long as you defrost it first) and it's a great feed for them.

Salad,Veg and Greens: anything like lettuce, thin sliced cucumber, even your cabbage left overs and carrot peals are great for swans and ducks .

Raisins: another super food for ducks and swans, most people always have a bag stashed in the cupboard somewhere and again like everything listed so much better than bread.

All these items listed you can either get in quantity or have/own/use in your house anyway and make a better diet for the wildfowl around the millpond, just be sure to not leave any scraps along the paths for vermin and seagulls.

Due to the extreme temperatures in the next two days i won't be down by the millpond, i cant give ducks and swans food with heat stroke 😁😁

Hopefully Tuesday and Wednesday will not be wet either so i can resume my duck food duties 🫡

I am Duck Food Dave... Or i will be for the next 6 weeks of the holidays at least, i will be around the Pembroke Milpond and castle waterways selling duckfood specifically formulated for wildfowl so ducks and swans can eat it safely for £1.50 a bag

Bread is NOT bad for ducks and swans, however it is empty calories it has ZERO nutritional value to it and just fills their belly's, also most of the time you end up feeding the seagulls, my food the seagulls do not notice so you feed the ducks and swans in peace and not get swarmed by herring gulls and black headed gulls.

I stock plenty of food and also stock dog bags for dog walkers and duck calls for the kids so they can talk to the ducks as they feed them 😁😁
