Copied from an email from Jackie Jefferson regarding the passing of Greg Pill:

Dear Pool Pals,

This is notify you of distressing news about a friend from OBRFC days -- and it will sadden all who knew him -- but Gregg Pill, part owner of the club which he and his wife managed for 12 years, and a generous and welcoming friend to his Pool Pals, has passed away. The shocking news is that he died suddenly last week end from a heart attack. There's no published obituary yet, so information is sketchy, but apparently he was in Canada on vacation.

When I first wrote to tell him about the pot luck tomorrow, I gave him the wrong date and he wasn't sure he'd be able to make it because of a Westmont Village meeting he had to attend on Tuesday, but he was "sure going to try." So we were both relieved when I realized I'd made that mistake. He was to be the surprise guest I mentioned, the friend whom I'd hoped we'd all get to see and hear from about his life since OBRFC.

Being modest I'm sure he didn't mention to any of us that he was one of four people nominated for the Westmont Citizen of the Year Award last April. He cared deeply for the Village and spent countless hours as a dedicated volunteer, having served as an athletic coach, a Cub Scout leader and on two Village committees, as well as being Vice President of the Village.

He was Fitness and Membership Services Manager at Westmont Park District, Race to the Flag Director (a 5K Run/Walk benefiting People's Resource Center), Past President of the Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Bureau, wrote a column on restaurants for Suburban Life -- and much more. Gregg also believed in charity and always tried to give back to his community, as demonstrated by his helping organize the annual events to benefit St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. To say he was fully engaged in an active life is a major understatement.

Gregg was a good guy who had a big heart. We just wish it had been stronger ...

Jackie

You better watch out
You better not cry
Better not pout
I'm telling you why
Santa Claus is coming to town

He's making a list
And checking it twice
Gonna find out Who's naughty and nice
Santa Claus is coming to town

He sees you when you're sleeping
He knows when you're awake
He knows if you've been bad or good
So be good for goodness sake!

O! You better watch out!
You better not cry
Better not pout
I'm telling you why
Santa Claus is coming to town

with group shot

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire
Jack Frost nipping at your nose
Yule-tide carols being sung by a choir
And folks dressed up like Eskimos

Everybody knows a turkey and some mistletoe
Help to make the season bright
Tiny tots with their eyes all aglow
Will find it hard to sleep tonight

They know that Santa's on his way
He's loaded lots of toys and goodies on his sleigh
And every mother's child is gonna spy
To see if reindeer really know how to fly

And so I'm offering this simple phrase
To kids from one to ninety-two
Although it's been said many times, many ways
Merry Christmas to you
