Travel to the highest JR location with High Rail 1875 via Dense Mountains in Japan! | TheArcTurn
This train provides service along the Koumi Line, which has many attractions, such as the panoramic views of Mount Yatsugatake and other mountainous terrain, bountiful harvests from the long days and extreme temperature differences, and excellent nighttime star-gazing.
The Koumi Line, which connects Kobuchizawa Station in Yamanashi Prefecture to Komoro Station in Nagano Prefecture, also known as the Yatsugatake Kogen Line, runs at the highest elevation of any Japan Railways line. This train was named HIGH RAIL 1375 in order to highlight the high elevation of the Koumi Line, which has the highest section of “RAIL” of any JR Line at 1,375 meters above sea level, between Nobeyama and Kiyosato stations. The name was chosen in the hope that visitors will enjoy how starry the sky is when seen from the high elevation of the Koumi Line.
Inspired by the night sky of the Koumi Line and the flow of the Yatsugatake Mountains seen from the train window, the design uses the metallic texture of the train body as a canvas. For adults, the exterior design evokes a sense of setting off on a lightly nostalgic journey while for children the effect is that of embarking on an exciting adventure.
With features such as seats and logo designs inspired by the stars of the four seasons, metallic riveted window frames, and artistically decorated blackboard-like walls – the elaborately decorated interior adds excitement to your trip.
There are plenty of services related to [stars] such as the [Starry Sky Film] and [Stargazing] by starry sky guides.
Enjoy the “train closest to the sky” inside the train and along the line.

Asakusa Samba Carnival:S2 League 8: Amigos Calientes Tokyo 2023 | TheArcTurn
The Asakusa Samba Carnival is usually a big, blown-out affair, but while the parade is finally back for 2023, it will be held on a slightly smaller scale than before.
What happens?
At Asakusa’s Samba Carnival, you are guaranteed to see the most dazzling array of beautiful telephoto lenses that you have ever witnessed — and the dancers are quite nice too!
Reflecting Japan’s close ties with Brazil (Brazil has the largest Japanese diaspora in the world), the festival sees dancers with tiny costumes and enormous feathered head dresses.
Schedule 2023
The carnival kicks off at 12:00 p.m. down Asakusa Kaminarimon Street. There will be no floats this year or contest, so it won’t last as long as other iterations.
And now a word from our man on the ground Grigoris
Best spot for photo-taking
If you care for more candid photos of the dancers, I’d suggest going either to Umemichi Dori (at the entrance of Kaminarimon Dori) where the crews make their entrance from or to Kokusai Dori (at the end of Kaminarimon Dori) which is where most exit from. You’ll miss the actual dancing but you’ll get a chance to see the dancers from up close and probably take a picture with them (if taking a picture with a 180 cm/5’9 samba queen is something you’re interested in).
Also good for such pictures are the streets running parallel to Kaminarimon Dori in the south—many crews return to their accommodations using these. By the way be prepared for a culture shock/stereotype demolition: despite their unmistakably Brazilian appearance these girls (and guys of course; I’m not making any assumptions here) are Brazilian-Japanese who either live in Japan or have flown in for the event so their Japanese is pitch-perfect.
Have a great time!

KANA's Hot Belly Dance Gala Show Arabian Festival Tokyo 2023 | TheArcTurn

Arabian Festival 2023
Bellydance Gala Show
The Bellydance Gala Show, which was held for the first time last year, was a huge success!
This year, more powerful performers will color the main stage of Yoyogi Park in summer!
Please look forward to the stage produced by Cafe BOHEMIA, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year!
Throughout the year, Yoyogi Park hosts numerous festivals showcasing the culture of different countries and regions of the world. One such event is the Arabian Fes, which is held over two days in early July. The event serves as a celebration of the extended Middle East.
Public Domain
The event will include a sh**ha competition with 7 businesses aiming to be crowned as Tokyo's best sh**ha cafe, belly dancing performances, Arabian food available for purchase, and an Arabian market area selling handicrafts and more.
Admission to the event itself is free, but do bring some yen if you plan on making a purchase.
The Arabian Festival (or Arabian Fes as it is officially called) is coming to Yoyogi Park to celebrate the wide-ranging cultures, fashions and foods of Arab countries. The festival is being held in an effort to expand people’s notion of Arabian culture, which varies vastly from, say, Egypt to Morocco to Dubai.
What happens?
There will be belly dancing performances with prominent dancers taking to the stage. There will also be a “sh**ha competition”, presumably with different cafes competing for the title of best sh**ha.
GETTING THERE
Yoyogi Park can be accessed within five minutes on foot from Harajuku Station, served by the JR Yamanote Line. Other train stations in close walking distance include the Tokyo Metro's Meijijingumae and Yoyogi-Koen Stations.

Kabuki: The Beautiful Japanese Theatrical Art Performance at National Theatre Tokyo | TheArcTurn
Kabuki: The Beautiful Japanese Theatrical Art Performance at National Theatre Tokyo | TheArcTurn
Kabuki came into existence around 1603 with the arrival in Kyoto of a troupe of dancing girls led by a certain Izumo-no-Okuni, formerly a shrine maiden. Their dances created a sensation and were labelled "Kabuki" which, at that time, meant "unorthodox" or "eccentric". Such troupes of women were subsequently banned as were those of the dancing boys that took their place. They were succeeded by groups of adult men whose performances developed into Kabuki as it now exists. In the process, the original meaning of the word kabuki changed to become Ka(Song), Bu(Dance), Ki(Technique or Skill).
Kabuki originally consisted of short dances but the repertoire now is huge and is made up of both plays and dances, most of which date from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Originally the principal entertainment of the urban merchant classes, Kabuki is the traditional, popular theater of Japan and continues to flourish and draw large audiences. Kabuki is also attracting increasing attention abroad and is now regarded as one of the world's great theatrical arts, remarkable for its vigour.
Story of Nihon Furisode Hajime:
The drama is set in the upper reaches of the Hinokawa River that runs through the province of Izumo (now Shimane Prefecture). Deep in the mountains where it is dark even in the daytime settled in Yamata no Orochi, a gigantic eight-headed serpent. For fear of the horrible curse of the monster serpent befalling them, villagers offered a beautiful woman as a sacrifice every year. Now, Princess Inada is sunken in grief at the upper reaches of the river, waiting to be offered as the latest scapegoat. Then comes Princess Iwanaga, who hates beautiful women. In fact, she is an incarnation of Yamata no Orochi. Attempting to attack Princess Inada, Princess Iwanaga suddenly notices the smell of sake (liquor). She empties eight sake jugs one after another, and eventually sw
Yes, you read the title right. The Kanamara Festival (aka the P***s Festival) at Kanayama Shrine in Kawasaki features ph***ic images in everything from the decorations to snacks (as well as your regular festival food).
There is also a mikoshi (portable shrine) parade of numerous giant ph**li just before noon. Men in drag carry the pink “Elizabeth Mikoshi,” donated by a drag queen club called Elizabeth. Profits raised from the event go to HIV research.
The moment you’ve all been waiting for, the mikoshi parade will commence from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and will feature three types of ph***ic statues.
Here’s some backstory. Kanayama Shrine was popular with s*x workers from the local tea houses who prayed for protection from s*xually transmitted diseases. The gods of mining and blacksmiths, Kanayamahiko and Kanayamahime, respectively, are enshrined in it. This might sound totally unrelated to ph**li; however, Japanese legend says that they healed the Shinto goddess Izanami after she gave birth to a fire god. because of this myth, people prayed to these gods regarding matters of STDs, childbirth, etc.
Another story tells of a demon who fell in love with a woman and hid inside her va**na, biting off her newlywed husband’s p***s, twice. She then sought help from a blacksmith, who made her a metal phallus. It broke the demon’s teeth and sent him off for good. They later enshrined it in Kanayama Shrine as a sort of commemoration.

Everyone waited for 14 years for this to happen! | TheArcTurn
The Awa Odori is a vibrant and energetic traditional dance festival held annually in Japan, with the largest and best known of them taking place in Tokushima Prefecture on the island of Shikoku. If you're not in that area, though, Tokyo's Asakusa Awa Odori is a great option to check out.
Back in action after a 14 year hiatus (!), the event is set to include 10 groups of Awa Odori dancers including the local Asakusa Thunder Ren team. Between the dance performances, traditional costumes, and electric atmosphere, this is a festival worth attending if you're in the Tokyo area in early July.
Revived for the first time in 14 years — what a break — Asakusa Awa Odori is a festival celebrating a popular traditional summer dance.
What is Awa Odori?
The dance festival (odori means dance) has its origins as a summer Obon festival. ‘Awa’ was the pre-Meiji name for the area in which Tokushima City is located. The festival was renowned as a raucous and drunken event and over the years a distinctive dance style emerged. There are a variety of styles of dress for men and women and they typically dance separately or together in large choreographed groups. Many of the female dancers wear distinctive hats which are made from tatami.
It’s a chance to see participants donning traditional Obon outfits, singing, chanting, and dancing throughout the neighborhood — a summertime classic.
What happens?
10 dance groups will participate outside Asakusa Yokocho and along Asakusa Rokku Broadway (from Annex View Hotel to Uniqlo Asakusa) between 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Schedule
Each dance group will have its own schedule of where they will be at any given time and what particular choreography they will perform, so make sure to check each individual group’s social media accounts. For example, Asakusa Kaminari Ren (Asakusa Thunder Ren) will perform Nagashi Odori at 4 p.m. outside Annex View Hotel.

Inside view of 47F high Tokyu Kabukicho Tower Tokyo 2023 | TheArcTurn
In this video we will tour the first 17F of the newly inaugrated Tokyu Kabukicho Tower in Kabukicho near Shinjuku Station in Tokyo, Japan. It is 47F tall building with height of 225M.
In preparation for the opening of the new Tokyu Kabukicho Tower, Kabukicho will be putting on a party with free live performances, a mikoshi (portable shrine) procession, and outdoor movie festival.
While the signs around Kabukicho will be blue for the whole month of April, the main festivities will happen on April 15 to 16. There will be a special stage set up on the east side of the new building and in Cine City Square.
Tokyo’s constantly changing and evolving, and it can be a tad overwhelming to keep up with all the new and upcoming attractions. There’s a lot to look forward to in 2023, including the new teamLab Borderless in central Tokyo, an exciting Harry Potter attraction, and this entertainment complex in Shinjuku’s lively Kabukicho district. Called the Tokyu Kabukicho Tower, this new building will be Japan's largest hotel and entertainment complex, home to a cinema, two luxury hotels, a concert venue, an entertainment food hall and much more.
Calling the space massive is an understatement. The skyscraper features a total of 48 floors plus five basement levels and penthouses. It's set to open on April 14 2023, with the hotels operating from May 19 2023. Here’s a sneak peek at some of the upcoming facilities in this Kabukicho entertainment hub.
Live music hall Zepp Tokyo in Odaiba shuttered its doors in early 2022, but has found a new home at Tokyu Kabukicho Tower. Basement levels one to four will be dedicated to the new music space, with a capacity for roughly 1,500 people, the largest among the live music venues in Shinjuku.
The second floor is an entertainment food hall, which combines food and music in a festival-themed atmosphere. The restaurant tenants have yet to be announced, but you c
Full Version of the Crying 😭 Baby 🍼 Nakizumo Festival 🎎 Japan 2023 | TheArcTurn
Watching sumo wrestlers trying to make babies cry might seem like an odd pastime, but in Asakusa’s Sensoji it’s an age-old tradition. The 400-year-old event takes place at a few different temples and shrines across Japan but this is by far the most popular.
What happens?
The babies are a year old and the challenge is to see which cries first — becoming the winner. If they cry at the same time, the winner is determined by who cries the loudest and if a baby laughs, an ogre-mask-clad priest will often step in to encourage some tears.
Parents pay around ¥15,000 to have their babies participate, and it’s quite a privileged opportunity as the tears encourage good health and drive away any evil spirits. This is the root behind the popular Japanese saying that a crying baby grows faster (although we assume this is little comfort to tired parents at 2 a.m.).
Schedule 2023
There are two competitions: one held at 11:10 a.m. and one at 2:25 p.m. so don’t worry if you can’t make the earlier one.

Highlights of The Imperial Palace East Gardens (皇居東御苑, Kōkyo Higashi Gyoen) Tokyo 2023 | TheArcTurn
The Imperial Palace East Gardens (皇居東御苑, Kōkyo Higashi Gyoen) are a part of the inner palace area and are open to the public. They are the former site of Edo Castle's innermost circles of defense, the honmaru ("main circle") and ninomaru ("secondary circle"). None of the main buildings remain today, but the moats, walls, entrance gates and several guardhouses still exist.
Edo Castle was the residence of the Tokugawa sh**un who ruled Japan from 1603 to 1867. Emperor Meiji also resided there from 1868 to 1888 before moving to the newly constructed Imperial Palace.
A wide lawn and the remaining foundation of the former castle tower can be found on top of the hill, where the castle's innermost buildings once stood. The castle tower was completed in 1638 as the tallest castle tower in Japan's history. But only a few years later in 1657, it was destroyed by citywide fires and has not been rebuilt since.
In place of the castle's former palace buildings in the secondary circle of defense (ninomaru) at the foot of the hill, a nice Japanese-style garden has been created.
The Otemon entrance to the East Gardens is a short walk from Otemachi Station on the Chiyoda, Tozai, Marunouchi, Hanzomon and Mita subway lines. It can also be reached in a 10-15 minute walk from Tokyo Station.
Hours
9 AM to 5 PM (March 1 to April 14 and all of September)
9 AM to 6 PM (April 15 through August)
9 AM to 4:30 PM (October)
9 AM to 4 PM (November through February)
Admission ends 30 minutes before closing.
Closed
Mondays, Fridays, New Year (December 28 to January 3) and some special occasions. If Monday or Friday is a national holiday, the gardens are closed on the following day instead.
