It is with great sadness that I must share that we lost a wonderful friend and longtime employee this past Saturday, April 1. Driver Kenny Frey passed away unexpectedly at his home Saturday morning. Kenny joined StarGazer/Northwoods Mobility in 2018 and has been a valued and dedicated driver ever since. He was not just an employee, but a great friend who would give anyone the shirt off his back. We will never replace him, but we will always remember his kindness, laughter, sense of humor and loyalty.

No services are planned at this time, but his family will announce a Celebration of Life at a later date in the Tomahawk area.

We are honored with this award from Inclusa, with whom we have worked since the days when it was called CCCW, almost 10 years ago. Are looking for a full-time or part-time position? Do you like people? More importantly, do you like driving? If this sounds like you, then Northwoods Mobility want and StarGazer to meet you!

We are seeking new drivers to assist us in transporting our growing base of non-emergency medical clients and others all across the northern part of Wisconsin. Most of our clients are located in Oneida, Vilas and Lincoln counties, but many of our trips take us all over surrounding rural counties and to major healthcare/hospital hub communities such as Wausau, Milwaukee, Madison, and Appleton.

If you think you would enjoy transporting both ambulatory and/or wheelchair-bound clients to their medical appointments, then this job is for you! Don't worry, we train on paperwork, wheelchair securement, vehicle operation (if it is one of our small buses), etc. All you need is a clean Motor Vehicle Record, ability to pass a drug screen (and random drug tests), and the desire to help others in our community who need our assistance. Most work hours are Monday-Friday with some weekend and evening hours from time to time.

We are based right here in Harshaw just off Hwy. 51 (north of Tomahawk -- 9548 County Road K) and we provide all the vehicles and instructions on your day-to-day assignments. Coupled with delays in the supply chain, as well as a shortage of employees, the road to recovery has been tough, as is the case with one local transportation company.

We provide non-emergency medical transportation to clients all over the Northwoods, primarily those who live in Oneida, Lincoln, Price and Marathon counties. We provide service to individuals who can walk and those who need specialized transportation, such as wheelchair vehicles. All training is provided. All you need is a clean driving record, background check and be willing to do pre-employment and random drug screening. Hours are flexible, and some weekend hours are possible. Are you disabled? Are you needing rides to work, training, medical appointments, etc? StarGazer Ride Service and its sister wheelchair division, Northwoods Mobility Services, provides non-emergency medical transportation all across the Northwoods. We work with Medicaid/Badger Care (MTM), Inclusa, and now IRIS in Wisconsin!
IRIS (Include, Respect, I Self-Direct) is a self-directed program for Wisconsin's frail elders and adults with disabilities. You have to be eligible for Medicaid to be in the IRIS program. StarGazer is now an approved provider for IRIS, so if you are funded through this program, just speak with your case worker about your transportation needs and have them give us a call at 715-453-2929. We offer both ambulatory and wheelchair transport. We look forward to working with you!

As always, in addition to taking insurance coverage through the above mentioned programs, we also work with local residents participating in the VA in outlying areas, workers compensation transportation and private pay.

We all have the concerns regarding COVID-19 weighing heavily on our minds these days, and we at StarGazer and Northwoods Mobility are no different. While our trip demand has dropped drastically due to clinics and physicians cancelling client appointments for their safety and others, we are still operating and our business is included as a Essential Business in the Governor's Safer At Home order. We are still on the road for our clients and Northwoods residents.

So, if you do have an appointment, need to shop for groceries or need to get to the pharmacy, you are welcome to call us for assistance in the Minocqua and Tomahawk areas, as well as appointments that take you out of the general area for important medical appointments. Please remember we do not have drivers on demand, so you will need to call us the day prior in most cases. In case of an emergency, we will do our best to respond to your transportation need.

Also, we are only transporting one client at a time in our vehicles to maintain the required social distancing spacing. Vehicles are also disinfected before and after each client for your health and safety.
