Prague's Venice can be seen only from the Charles Bridge. The houses are built right next to the Vltava River which creates beautiful corners. And what is more beautiful that people still live here today and the houses are not hotels or AirBnB.

MÁJ DEPARTMENT STORE has a new face. The building, which was built in the 1970s and later was declared as a cultural monument, has become a very special symbol of Prague.

Nowadays it is owned by a private company who first presented a project of a department store and offices, which they later changed into an entertainment centre - a kind of Prague Las Vegas. This decision was not accepted by the majority of Prague residents.

But what is worth photographing are the moving butterflies by artist David Cerny, which are constructed from Spitfires. It has a little symbolism for Czech history Máj = May, when WW2 ended and many Czech people fought on the side of England as RAF pilots.

Today's tour of the MAIN RAILWAY STATION revealed 3 completely new renovated halls and one hall absolutely hidden in the old wing.
The station is the biggest Art Nouveau building in the Czech Republic.

Now, a brief history. The first train arrived without great glory in December 1871 (because it was the 5th built railway station in Prague) and since then the capacity has constantly increased to its present size.

The name of the station has changed several times. First Emperor Franz Joseph Station, then Wilson Station, Main Station, then Wilson Station (after Woodrow Wilson, the American prezident) again and finally from 1953 it changed back to Main Station.

The big surprise for me was the building of an underground tramway as early as 1967 to connect the Main Station with Pankrac. That's why the metro in the station doesn't have a main platform, but two separate ones.
However, the project was stopped and replaced by the C metro line in 1974

On Thursday evening in Prague, the rotating FRANZE KAFKA HEAD by David Černý was officially launched. There was a really big number of people who were waiting to see it.

The head was made as part of shopping mall Quadrio and it was unveiled in October 2014.

I am fascinated by its technical data: it composes of 42 rotating stainless steel panels, weighing 39 tons, with 21 motor modules and 1 km of cables inside. The soul of the sculpture is a unique code that contains 15 programs.

Before that, a similar sculpture by David Cerny (Metamorphosis) was unveiled in North Carolina back in 2007.

As you have heard the terrible thing had happened in Prague. It is very devastating to us because we are very peaceful nation.
I still don't know how to come along with this.
I would like to share with you a small memory of one woman, which she-friend died during the accident.
Stay with us with all your concerns and prayers.

I wanted to write a letter to Lenka, a farewell memory, a message between heaven and earth. In the end, I just wrote her name. Her whole life is behind her name.
I spent nine years of my student and professional life at the Institute of Musicology near her. She built our little collective in the department like a family. Cheerful, full of energy, friendly and responsive.
Since yesterday morning, I can still see her face in front of me and think of her every second. I realize how that memory can stay alive next to her extinguished life.

Lenka invited me to the department Christmas party on December 21.
At 2:55 p.m., my classmate and I were meeting downstairs in the main building to go to a pre-Christmas sing-along with David Eben. After the singing, I wanted to stop by "our" 4th floor upstairs to say hello to my colleagues before the party started.
But my classmate and I were a bit delayed on the way...

The scenery of my memories of college, my second home, changed with Thursday. The horrors of one day seemed to redraw everything. I see images of places I know intimately that feel like they don't belong there at all. It's as if I have to rebuild from memories the past that was demolished by one day.

I remain in thought and silent prayer with Lenka, Lucia, Magdalena, Klara, Aneta, Jan, the other victims and their loved ones.
