My habitual pre-tour coffee has to be at Chapters Durham . Can't beat having leisurely cappuccino or a swift espresso in the window seat. Amazing for food also, but don't tell the chef I said this. She'll never catch a break!

I'm now into my fifth year of running Walkabout Durham. All the tours are researched and created by myself and, despite offering four tours, this is still my favourite one. Love delivering it each day and meeting a range of fascinating people.

A wet start to our History Tour yesterday but the sun was shining at the end. I loved the tour and thanks to all who booked. Was the busiest tour of the month so far. Summer is here.

I visited the beautiful Lichfield Cathedral last week and of course I had to pay a visit to St. Chad. Northumbrian born, he was educated under St. Aidan at Lindisfarne and eventually became the first bishop of our arch rivals, Mercia.

We took a glimpse inside the Town Hall on Saturday's History Tour. It is open to the public on Saturdays between 10am and 2pm. Why not take a trip to this Grade II listed building and discover some real hidden gems.

They don't make them like this anymore!
The door to John Cosin's Almshouses on Palace Green. Built in 1666 to provide food and shelter to the poor of the city and Brancepeth. As long as you didn't gamble or visit an alehouse, you would get an annual stipend of 6 pounds, 13 shillings and 4 pence.
