The Beveridge Wood Shop The woodworkings of Donald Beveridge I became intrigued with woodturning during the fall of 2015. On Halloween we bought a lathe from Harbor Freight.

I watched hours of youtube video, the most informative being by Mark Sillay, Lyle Jamieson, Allan and Stuart Batty and Richard Raffin (very instructive). A really good value. When the first shavings came off that first piece of wood I was hooked! The process of turning wood is a totally mind emptying experience for me. No noise but the turning of the wood. I have spent hours turning snowman, ornam

ents, bowls, hollow forms but I am still in the beginning steps of this journey. In early May we purchased a much larger lathe (insert manly grunts here) and I am enjoying it to the max.

My Nephew Jeremy and his family joined us for Thanksgiving. He brought along a 26" diameter by 28'' Chunk of Hickory. I turned it! There was a total of 8 Natural Edge bowls but 2 developed cracks. The largest is 19 1/2" by 8" deep and the smallest is 8" and as you will see in the pictures they nest rather nicely together.

I delivered them to Maiden Maryland today where you could find them for sale.

It's been so hot in the workshop that I haven't spent much time turning this summer. Just dropped these 6 turnings off at Maiden Maryland. If you're local please stop in to see all they have to offer. Check out their page!

Here are 5 items I have turned since the 1st of June. Pecan, Ambrosia Maple and Black Walnut. They are now for sale at Maiden Maryland in downtown Cambridge.

When you're in Cambridge, stop by Maiden Maryland on the corner of Gay and Poplar to see my collection and all the other neat things from all our local artist. It's a great store!

This is why I LOVE Black Walnut. It is so unique! This bowl was made for Eric Hodges who owned the tree. He loaded my pick-up not once but twice!

More turnings!

Most of these turnings came about with the help of my nephew John Burridge (Jason Beveridge). He knows this pile of wood that he takes me to from time to time and I get to find some of the neatest chucks around.

This is 12" round and 8" high. The thickness of the vessel is 3/16". The grain is stunning as the Pecan is slightly spalted. The pictures don't do it justice.

Hand turned, hollowed globes with accenting finials

Scott was a wonderful Brother-in-law. He was well known for his observations on the world. October 2016 Scott was taken in a motorcycle accident. I miss him and his ways. I had the honor of wood turning his cremation urn. It is made of Spalted Silver Maple with a finial and base of Black Walnut (one of his favorite woods). Scott was a craftsman and a wood worker and I am sure he wood really appreciate this urn.

I haven't posted in quite awhile. This is a special project. I turned this salad bowl and 4 small bowls out of Silver Maple then sent them to my Brother-in-law Stephen Wood. He built a Lichtenberg Unit for burning fractal designs on wood. He then stained each bowl with his "magic sauce" and this was the result. If you like it, say so! We could even hook you up with your own set.

Gale and Jamie want to know what I'm doing with all these things so Jamie has set me up here on the The Beveridge Wood Shop. Keep an eye out for the opening of the Etsy store in the very near future!
