Kyiv was founded by three brothers, Kyi (Kiy), Shchek, and Khoryv, leaders of the Polyanian tribe of the East Slavs. Each established his own settlement on a hill, and these settlements became the town of Kyiv, named for the eldest brother, Kyi; a small stream nearby was named for their sister Lybed. Although the chronicle account is legendary, there are contemporary references to Kyiv in the writings of Byzantine, German, and Arab historians and geographers.
Monuments to the founders of Kyiv can be seen in the city center (opened in 2001) and on the bank of the river Dnipro (opened 1982).
The 19th of December, when St.Nicolas came to Ukraine, in the centre of Kyiv – Cristmas tree shone.
This year is not easy for everybody in Ukraine, but we cannot allow Christmas to be stolen from our children by russians. Each of us is trying to bring victory closer.

The Mayor of Kyiv is an ex boxer, ex world champion in super weight – Vitalij Кlichko. First Ukrainian that appeared in the International hall of boxer glory. He was not stopped for a sporting career and decided to become a politician.
Vitalij surprises Kyiv residents quite often: takes part in challenges, something extreme – for example, on his 50 anniversary he did parachute jump. A mayor is famous for his "eloquence", but at the same time he has a positive attitude to self-irony. Let`s give some examples to you for cheering up :

Electricity supply damaged during the recent russian missile attacks, was partly resumed. Thanks to the unceasing work of electricians, Kyiv residents have energy and light 2-3 hours 3 times a day.
Blackouts made Ukrainian people more and more creative and flexible, sometimes sad and angry about that terrible situation, but an idea that it is better without electro power than with "russian peace" warms, gives light insight and strength for the further struggle for the freedom of Ukraine.
This year, at the end of May, Kyiv was celebrating 1540 anniversary.
It`s one of the oldest cities in Eastern Europe, dating back to the 5th century, although settlements on that site existed much earlier. By the late 9th century, Kyiv was the centre of an emerging Eastern Slavic state.
Between the 10th and early 13th centuries, it reached its golden age as the capital of the first Ukrainian state known today as Kyivan Rus. It was the state that shaped the religious and cultural foundations of the modern Eastern Slavic states of Ukraine, Russia and Belarus.
