Thanks to my travel hacking obsession we have made memories I never imagined with our children. For me, every trip is a good trip but that’s especially true of a beach trip that was basically FREE! ❤️💳✈️

Our Christmas 2022 travel nightmare resulted in 25k SW points given to each passenger as a “gesture of goodwill”. We put these points to use booking this amazing adventure to Puerto Rico!! 🇵🇷 Chase points transferred 1:1 to Hyatt for relaxing at the Hyatt Regency beachfront resort for a week.

Points breakdown:
109,560 SW points + $112 and one Companion Pass
SW flights cash value: $3707

Traveling as a family requires much more planning and points but it is worth it! ❤️💳✈️

A way to speed up accumulating large amounts of miles is having 2 players. If you strategically apply for business and personal versions of cards and follow some basic travel hacking rules anything is possible!

Our Alaska miles were accumulated through Alaska business and personal credit cards and Alaska shopping portal points. Singapore miles were transferred from Citi Thank You Points and American Express Membership Awards. Hilton points came from Hilton branded credit cards and Hyatt points were transferred from Chase Ultimate Rewards. Have a strategy and start planning your adventure today!

Total paid for food, excursions, one way flights between stops, fees, etc for 5 people on 4 countries over 24 days~ $6858 and

For our last stop in Bali I decided to use Hilton points at the Conrad Nusa Dua!

After such a long, exhausting trip I knew we would need to end with comfort on the beach. I used 360k Hilton points to reserve 2 standard 60k rooms for 3 nights and was upgraded to an oceanfront 2 bedroom, 3 bathroom suite! Not our favorite use of Hilton points but it has a good location and will allow us to prepare for our next stop ~ HOME!!

When you find an AirBnB this magical sometimes you just have to maximize the rewards you get paying for it!

The Green Village is a community of gorgeous bamboo homes and a few of them are listed to rent on AirBnB. My youngest daughter fell in love with “Ananda House” on a Netflix show and I knew we had to make this happen. Here are the steps I used to make the most of our stay:

~ Waited for an AA shopping portal bonus of spend $600 earn 2000 AA miles.
~ Entered Staples.com through the AA shopping portal for 2X AA miles/$
~ Used my Chase Ink Cash for 5X UR/$ to buy AirBnB digital gift cards from Staples.com

I purchased $600 in gift cards under both my account and my husbands account for a total return of:

4000 AA miles from the bonus
2400 AA miles through the portal
6000 UR from my CIC 5X office stores

Staying here was definitely not free but by earning 12400 miles and points on the booking it’s a little less painful!

What’s the fastest way to accrue miles and points? Sign on bonuses!!

Most rewards cards offer large amounts of bonus miles or points for meeting a minimum spending amount in a certain time frame. For example, spend $3k in 3 months to earn 80k points. This might sound like a lot of spending but if you’re strategic it’s not that difficult.

~Prepay utilities like water, gas, cell phone, electric
~Use a 3rd party like Plastiq or Melio to pay bills that won’t take credit cards (insurance, daycare, mortgage, rent, escrow, taxes)
~Appliances, furniture, home repair

Yes, there may be a small processing fee for some but if you can get a return of $0.05/pt you’re winning. Plan ahead and maximize normal expenses to meet your travel goals!

Highlights from our amazing tour of Koh Samui!

Two keys to successful family travel are making sure to have rest days between busy days and hiring private family friendly guides! Our guide, Yankee, was outstanding at explaining the importance of each temple and stop. Worth every penny to make sure the kids understand why we travel!

Some opportunities have to be looked at as an opportunity to earn points instead of spending them. ❤️💳✈️

Excursions can be booked through Chase and American Express portals but aren’t usually a great use of points. I have found booking Viator excursions through shopping portals is the way to go. Head to cashbackmonitor.com to see which airline, hotel or credit card is offering the best pts/$$. Ideally I book excursions when there is a portal bonus happening, like back to school spending where they give extra points during a promotional period.

Our adventure today was $585. American Airlines had a promotion to spend $600 and earn a bonus 2000 miles plus it was 8 pts/$. The remaining $15 was easy to spend on the Walmart app.

600 x 9 = 5400
2000 bonus miles

That’s 7400 miles earned with just a few extra clicks! Totally worth it!!

Our Singapore air ticket allowed for a whirlwind 32 hour stop in Singapore before continuing to our next destination of the Conrad Koh Samui, Thailand. Hilton has 2 great benefits that made this stay possible: 5th night free on award stays and the ability to pool family member points. I originally booked 2 of their 95k standard rooms but took a chance and contacted the hotel to ask if they could accommodate all 5 of us in one unit. They upgraded us to a BREATHTAKING 2 story villa with a private infinity pool!!

Hilton points 95k x 4 nights x 2 = 760k
Value of 2 story villa for 5 nights = $11,632
Spending 5 nights living our best White Lotus life = Priceless!!

Alaska cards have implemented a one sign on bonus every 24 month rule. This means you can apply for one of each every 2 years but you cannot hold one at the next application so you need to downgrade to a no fee product or close the card before applying.

We made the most of our short stay in Singapore with Hilton points and private guides. ❤️💳✈️

As a family of 5 we need 2 rooms.
Cash price would have been $550.
We paid 80k Hilton points!

Guides were booked through the American Airlines shopping portal for 9 AA points/$. You can’t redeem points for everything so be sure to maximize buying power with shopping portals!

Beginning our adventure with an aspirational redemption in Singapore Airlines business class LAX-SIN! Fun fact, this is the 7th longest flight in the world!! ❤️💳✈️

I dove into travel hacking in 2015 and with no real experience, I just collected as many random miles as fast as I could. There was a time when it was very easy to churn both business and personal Alaska Airlines credit cards allowing me to stock pile hundreds of thousands of Alaska miles. Business class tickets allow lounge access which made our 5 hour LAX layover actually quite enjoyable.

Hawaii has every hotel chain option and multiple airlines which makes it easy to hack. For this trip we used Wyndham points to book our condo through Vacasa. All major brands are scattered throughout Mexico if you have brand specific points like Hilton or Marriott. Pretty much any resort can be booked through the Chase travel portal but the best way to maximize points is usually to transfer those Ultimate Rewards to Hyatt!

Mexico is a popular vacation destination and an easy one to hack if you do some research.
❤️💳✈️

If you’re lucky enough to be near a nonstop route to Mexico on either American or Alaska Airlines, you’ll find great deals booking those flights using British Airways Avios. British Airways uses a distance based award chart which means the best deals are for nonstop flights under 2,000 miles.

British Airways prices award flights by segment so you'll need to fly on nonstop flights to get these deals. If your flight requires a connection, you'll be better off booking through another program such as American's AAdvantage.

Booking American or Alaska flights to Mexico using British Airways Avios means you'll need to find saver availability on nonstop flights. The best way to do this is to use American’s award search. Once you find dates with saver space, plug those dates into the British Airway page to book those flights.

Accruing Avios is easy with their credit card sign on bonus and transfers from American Express, Chase or Capital One.

If you live in a place that requires a connection (like me😕) AA Web Specials are the way to go. Search on the AA site in a browser, not the app, to see the month calendar view to find the lowest rates. Maximizing your points and miles means being flexible to get the most value for your points!

During the height of COVID, Akumal Bay Beach & Wellness Resort had a 2 rooms for the price of 1 deal and I jumped on it knowing we would return to one of our favorite places in Mexico. 🇲🇽

Cash price for flights~$4280
I paid~$424.60 and 112.5k AA miles

American Airline miles are hard to accrue but if you are flexible with dates you can save thousands! If we would have stayed Saturday-Saturday it would have cost triple the points. By being flexible and moving the dates Wednesday-Wednesday we saved enough points for a whole other trip!

What’s the secret to finding award seats on United? Have a United credit card! ❤️💳✈️

While helping a friend look for flights we noticed a huge difference in what we each were seeing. I saw 4 seats for 60k while the cheapest she could see was 155k. What was the difference?

I procrastinated planning an Easter trip and today my procrastination paid off. 🤣

I was able to book a trip to Maui for our family of 5 plus 2 of our kids best friends on points over Easter with no hesitation!

SW points 21,775 x 6 plus 1 companion ticket and $39.20 in taxes.

AA miles 25k x 7 plus $39.20 in taxes and $392 to upgrade the overnight flight seats. $200 of which will be credited back thanks to the $200 American Express Platinum airline credit.

A single tax ID for a business can be used for more than one person. A good strategy is to have one person apply for a card like the Chase Business Unlimited and then create a referral for your partner/spouse so they get the sign on bonus and you get the referral bonus!
