Monsoon mornings are pure bliss! 🌧️💚
Nothing beats a leisurely stroll through lush greenery. Look who I spotted enjoying the fresh air too - a juvenile long-billed vulture chilling and having a meal in the grassland.

Returning home with a full crop.
It is wonderful to watch a LONG-BILLED VULTURE with it's crop size full.
If you closely notice, there is a ball like outgrowth at the end of neck. This crop is specially designed for vultures to carry and store the meat from the carcass.
Long-billed Vulture's do not have strong beak and claws to carry meat. Whereas they can carry upto 0.5kgs of meat in this crop. This crop-full of meat ensure their dietary need for atleast a week.

This is not an adult vulture. The scattered white hair on the neck and underwing pigmentation suggests it is around 2.5-3 years old. Once they are adult they will have a dark, hairless neck and a prominent rustic coloured underwing. Long-billed Vultures reach adulthood when they are 5 years old.

Witness these mesmerizing creatures in full glory with THE LAST VULTURE in our upcoming walking safari this October onwards. Stay connected!

On this World Endangered Species Day let's pledge to save these magnificent and ill-treated bird species, i.e.
It is difficult to find vultures in the news. Considering the sighting and conservation efforts they still are neglected on many fronts. Vultures have lost 99% of their population in the past, and they are trying to recover from the unwanted incident of poisoning. Vultures need to be conserved on a priority basis. We might see many life-threatening events in future if these species go extinct!

Let's keep the dwindling population of vultures in hindsight and work towards increasing their numbers in the coming years.

If efforts are not extended towards vultures "NOW", these could be our .

In frame INDIAN VULTURE after a meal. Crop size and bloody head are the proof that it just had a wholesome.

First Saturday of the month of September is considered as VULTURE AWARENESS DAY.
Vultures are a part of our food chain and diminishing numbers are exposing humans to fatal diseases like anthrax and rabies.
For a shock Anthrax and Rabies are now only endemic to India. Diminishing numbers of these gentle giants is enabling the consumption of carcass by animals which cannot incubate this disease and are in direct contact with human settlements which is alarming.

On this day announcing the "EXCLUSIVE VULTURE SAFARI EXPERIENCE" in the heart of India. The safari dates will be released soon. DM to know more about these trips and its impact on vulture population.

Observing Egyptian Vultures is in itself an experience.
Egyptian Vultures are the smallest of all vultures found in India. While in the field to explore the habits and habitats of Gyps Indicus (Indian/Long-billed Vulture). Intercepted by a pack of soaring Egyptian vultures while one of the adults carrying traces of carrions. Excited! These positive signs can lead to witnessing a flock of vultures devouring carrion. This sign leads to the carrion where the waiting game begins!
This series of pictures shows the pattern of the vultures & how they land near the carrion.
The dark morph is a sub-adult vulture in non-breeding plumage whereas the white morph is in breeding plumage. It was feeding its juveniles in the nest in the ravines.
Vultures are patient when searching for carcasses but not when devouring them. The pattern is also interesting because they don't land directly on the carrion. They soar high to investigate the area. After locking the target, they start perching on the nearby trees from where they have a sight of the carrion. Vultures observe and wait for other participants, like dogs, to finish their tearing job, making an entry point for the vultures to access the tissues and muscles. Then starts the cleaning job!

The new batch to witness vultures and their colony will begin from September 2023 onwards. Have any queries? Connect to the host Nitish Agrawal for more exciting updates on this exploration.

Welcome to The Last Vulture

Are these the last generations of the vultures found in India?

It can be! The hope for conservation and a rise in the population of 7 species belonging to the Indian subcontinent is challenging.

Who are we?
We at last vulture are dedicated to enabling wildlife enthusiasts, adventure enthusiasts and conservationists to get along with our venture based on eco-tourism, vulture safari and awareness towards the conservation of critically endangered species.

What is our motto?
Conservation stories become highlights when they reach unaware people. You must be aware of tiger conservation, Great Indian Bustard conservation, Rhino conservation, but have you heard about Vulture conservation? A few organizations are doing great community work in India to flourish the lost population of vultures as these stories are very limited to wildlife niche people. At the last vulture, we will let you immerse yourself in first-hand experience of these species and create unforgettable stories to share and remember.

Why is it important?
The vulture population have plummeted by almost 96% over the last two decades. The population trend is declining according to IUCN red list. The actual numbers of the vulture population are still not official and estimates showcase that only 30,000-50,000 vultures remain in the wild.

How can you join?
To join this one-of-a-kind experience to witness one of the oldest species of vultures with chances to see mammals like small cats, jackals and many more rare bird species, you can click the links below to connect to the host, Nitish Agrawal. Do you know why EGYPTIAN VULTURE display such vibrant yellow colour on the head?

* CAROTENOID is a pigment which is responsible for such bright colour head in EGYPTIAN VULTURE.

* Some birds can generate CAROTENOID by themselves but some can't.

* EGYPTIAN VULTURE belongs to the category where they can't produce CAROTENOID themselves 🪶

Then how come their head glow bright yellow?

* The main source of CAROTENOID for this vulture is from the droppings of ungulate meaning cows, goats excreted waste. This bright yellow colour help them to dominate in courtship fight and in search for mates 👊🏻

Did you know this fact? If not then keep following for more such interesting facts 😄

Do you know why vultures have bald heads? 🔴
This RED HEADED VULTURE is a perfect example of it.
Vultures either don't have any feathers on the neck or they possess a very thin layer of soft feathers. The absence of feather is due to their eating habits. Usually they dig deep into the carrions in search of flesh and meat, which can possess bacteria and maggots. To make sure they don't stick to them, their evolution was in such a way that vulture have a bare neck which save them from these bacteria and ease them to reach deep into the flesh 🍗

Interesting right? 😮

Do you know India has vultures as one of the most abundant scavenger?

Yes, you heard that right there are only hyena and vultures which are true scavengers that are found in India.

India registered a decline of 96% vulture population and this particular species, INDIAN VULTURE in the picture suffered a drastic 99.5% decline in its population. As of 2017, there are around 12,000 left in wild which are under great threat of mass wipeout.

Many independent organisation are working towards the conservation of these species but a few can make up to the stories. Let's begin this new culture to save the vulture because if these are not saved now, then these are our THE LAST VULTURE.

Join me on this exclusive experience to witness these vultures, contribute towards conservation and know about them!
