Today was a fishing day off the jetty at Venus Bay, SA. Not a bad day for us 😂 bagged out on Whiting, plus salmon & squid.
This morning’s adventure on the way to Venus Bay - Murphy’s Haystacks
Found this today in Streaky Bay, record breaking catch caught in the area - thankfully not while we were fishing 🤣🤣
Hard view to eat dinner beside tonight
Another windy day so took another drive around the area, on the Westall Loop. What a stunning rugged, beautiful coastline it is here.
A bit windy today so a look around the Streaky Bay Area. Found the statue of Kerrin McEvoy on the foreshore & then did 1 of the tourist drives.
Tonight’s sunset from the caravan park
Our view that we left behind to the view we have for the next couple of nights. We are expected to gave gusty winds for the next 2 days. 💨💨
Time to leave Smoky Bay tomorrow, it’s been great for the squid 🦑 not so good for fishing 🎣 😞. You turned on some beautiful weather ☀️☀️ let us enjoy your Community Club for the Grand Finals & the food. Moving into Streaky Bay.
Tonight’s dinner @ the Community Club, value for money, the remains of the sunset & the moon on the water.
Watched the guys repair the shark netting on the swim cage.
Guess where we are now?
Our time in Ceduna is coming to an end, had a great time meeting awesome people, fishing, sqidding & crabbing. Taught people how to catch & clean squid & then sit around the camp kitchen eating the rewards with new friends. Had a look around the area today, now to get ready & move on to Smoky Bay - a whole 44kms down the road & hopefully catch more seafood. Enjoyed 1 last sunset here. 4
Todays catch so far, may try again later this afternoon. Guess we’re having seafood for dinner tonight as well.
Don’t know what any of you had for dinner tonight, but this was ours!
A look at Fowlers Bay, be glad I can’t get the smell of the sea grass on here.
So today’s adventure saw us enter SA, still no wildlife, but did have another wide load as well as a couple of different lots of pushbike riders, glads it’s them. Now sitting in Fowlers Bay for a couple of days. Tried out the jetty with Chris catching 3 squid will try again tomorrow & I’ll try & remember to take the phone to get photos 🤦♀️
Tonight we are near the WA/SA border. Some more photos of our very vast & open country.
While we have reception here are some photos of the last couple of days starting to cross the Nullarbor heading east, free camping.
What a contrast todays weather is from yesterday’s, hot & sunny 28 but feels a lot hotter. Today we went to the Museum of the Goldfields & saw a VR showing of Beyond the Milky Way, it was brilliant & very informative about how they are building the telescopes (using radio waves) to see well beyond our universe, together with South Africa. Then went to see the Super Pit & watch a blast but it was all closed off but we did hear it, sounded like rolling thunder. Got photos of the dust cloud. Then went to Hannans North Tourist Mine, about how gold was 1st discovered in the area & how mining has changed over the years, even tried panning for gold but no luck. Now back at camp before we go to a free concert. Also saw Questa Casa Bo****lo the oldest Australian working brothel.
What a wild day yesterday was, started off nice & sunny with a breeze. Decided to go Wyalkatchem to visit Chris’ aunt & uncle but lowered to roof on the van before we left (thank goodness), driving in we watched the road trains being blown all over the road. After our visit got back to the van, only to realise that it had been blown about 2 feet from where we left it. Sitting in Kalgoorlie tonight looking towards the mine, going to stay a couple of nights so we can have a look around.
Remembering family ❤️❤️❤️❤️ all gone too soon.
Some of the wildflowers around Wave Rock & Mulkas cave.
Climbed the rock this morning to catch the sunrise, stunning.
Went back to the wave last night with 1 of our big torches & took some photos
Well today we said goodbye to Esperance, thanks Sharon & Bill. Just for something different we had another wide load to get passed, we seem to always come across them. Headed to Hyden for Wave Rock after stopping at Ravensthorpe for the Lolly Shop. Walked/climbed the rock as the sun was setting - stunning ( hope photos do it justice).
Some photos from Esperance today. We were told about a bakery just up from our Caravan park, nice pastries then around to Blue Haven/Salmon Beach. Tonight fishing on the jetty with our catches , the sunset & the lights of Esperance.
After hibernating yesterday due to wet weather we were lucky enough to have Bill take us by 4WD to some of the beaches for fishing, no luck, ended up on the jetty we’re we only caught 2 leatherjackets (forgot to get a photo of the 1st) & a rock cod.
Some of the beaches from around Esperance, a fun afternoon with Noni, Chris’ sister. Hopefully we’ll get to see some sunshine soon.
Took Ma for a stroll onto Esperance jetty after lunch
Today’s travels. Arrived in Esperance this afternoon, a day ahead of schedule, caught up Bill & Sharon will catch up with more of the family tomorrow.
Tonight’s sunset & the super moon
Just when you think you’ve seen all the different weather conditions on the Nullarbor we get a new one - a couple of rainbows 🌈 to go with the rain that came our way.
Some of our sights today. There was a mother & calf whale at the Head of the Bight when we called in, the sign said 7 but we could only see 1 (1 is enough). Saw a dingo on the roadside but missed getting a photo 🤦♀️ Overcast day with gusty winds, now in WA.
Australia’s biggest windmill @ Penang
Tonight’s sunset at Ceduna
