A group of local artists has been crafting one of the most iconic symbols of the Lao New Year Festival; A giant peafowl replica set to take center stage during the festivities. This majestic creation will carry Miss Lao New Year in two parades winding through the city streets on 14 and 16 April.

According to legend, the peafowl holds profound significance, symbolizing the final daughter of Kabilaphom. Its presence embodies the tale of triumph, where wisdom prevails over adversity.

The Laos-China Railway has announced to all passengers that, in anticipation of the upcoming Lao New Year festivities, advance ticket sales for train journeys from 14 to 22 April are now available for up to 7 days prior.

Also, to accommodate the influx of passengers and tourists during this celebration period, the Lao-China Railways will introduce two additional EMU trains operating consecutively from 12 to 19 April for routes between Vientiane and Luang Prabang.

The Railway Company has revised the timetable for select stations.

Lao Airlines has launched daily flights to Houaphanh Province and increased its flights to Luang Namtha Province to twice per day, in response to growing demand, effective on 1 April.

The departure from Vientiane to Houaphanh is scheduled for 8:40 am, with arrival at 9:40 am. Return flights from Houaphanh to Vientiane are scheduled from 10:20 am to 11:20 am.

For flights to Luang Namtha, the initial departure from Vientiane is at 12 pm, arriving at its destination by 1 pm. The return flight leaves Luang Namtha at 1:40 pm, reaching Vientiane by 3:20 pm. Additionally, a second flight departs at 1:40 pm, arriving by 2:40 pm, and returns at 3:20 pm, reaching Vientiane by 4:20 pm.

Laos is bracing itself for a significant rise in temperatures across the nation from 4-7 April, with the potential for record-breaking highs, according to projections from the Meteorology and Hydrology Department.

Anticipated weather patterns indicate thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds sweeping across the country, particularly affecting southern regions. In the north, provinces may experience rainfall alongside temperature fluctuations ranging from 14 to 41 degrees Celsius. Central areas are likely to encounter thunderstorms with temperatures varying between 28 to 40 degrees Celsius, while Vientiane Capital could witness temperatures spanning from 25 to 39 degrees Celsius, coupled with the possibility of thunderstorms and isolated wind gusts.

Xaysomboun Province is expected to maintain relatively cooler conditions, with temperatures hovering between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, the southern region is forecasted to experience temperatures ranging from 25 to 40 degrees Celsius.

In light of these projections, the public is strongly advised to stay abreast of weather forecasts through various channels such as newspapers, radio, and television, or by following updates on the Meteorology and Hydrology Department’s page.

AirAsia Malaysia is relaunching direct flights between Kuala Lumpur and Vientiane starting 2 July, becoming the only airline offering direct flights to all 10 ASEAN countries.

Flight AK552 will depart from Kuala Lumpur at 07:10 am (KL local time) and arrive in Vientiane at 08:50 am (VTN local time) every Tuesday and Saturday.

The return flight, AK553 will depart from Vientiane at 9:20 am (VTN local time) and arrive in Kuala Lumpur at 1:10 pm (KL local time).
