The serenity of driving along a country lane naturally adorned with coconut palms on either side, amidst water is something that's indispensable when you're on the coasts.
There's such a scenic stretch in the suburbs of Kochi city. This scenic road along the coastal village of Ezhupunna Neendakara, which stands as a boundary between Ernakulam and Alappuzha districts of Kerala, is one such place and it has a great deal of resonance with the scenic Parra road of Goa.
This village and its coastal heritage is an absolute weekend getaway from Kochi. You will also find a play area for children, a seafood cafe and other local attractions to make it more than just a drive.

According to the popular beliefs and the history of Christianity in India, this hillock which is also known as 'Chinnamalai' in Tamil, situated in the city of Chennai is believed to be the place where St. Thomas (Syriac: Mar Toma), a Jewish-Christian saint and one of the 12 disciples of Jesus Christ (G-d of Christianity) lived and preached, following his arrival to South India from present-day Israel-Syria, in the year AD 52.
Upon descending down the stairs inside a 16th century church built by the Portuguese on this hillock, you will open up to this cave where St. Thomas used to preach the teaching of Jesus Christ.
Outside the cave, you will also strike upon the spring of St. Thomas and the bleeding cross which are believed to be chiselled by St. Thomas, himself.
This holy hillock which intertwines time and faith attract both history buffs and spiritual seekers.
📌 Fact: The BGM used for this reel is an Orthodox Christian hymn in the language, Syriac. Syriac used to be the predominant native language in the Assyrian nations of Syria and Iraq before they were Arabised in the 7th century AD, after which, this language was replaced by Arabic. Syriac is a dialect of the Aramaic language, which is believed to be the language spoken by Jesus Christ, hence it is also known as Aramaic-Syriac.

A metro that runs on water? Yes, you heard it right!
Spread over 10 islands and crisscrossed by backwaters and the Arabian sea, Kochi is one of the fastest-growing cities in India. From an ancient port city, it is now a well-developed trading center and a hub for information technology, sea-based industries and tourism in the country.
The Kochi Water Metro is an innovative and sustainable mode of transportation that connects various parts of the city through its intricate network of waterways. The project aims to reduce traffic congestion and improve the connectivity of the city while promoting eco-friendly means of transportation.
Starting at a fare of just ₹20, the Kochi water metro did not just make the domestic commute across the city easier but it also opened up a new realm of sustainable, water tourism in the city.

This Jewish synagogue situated in North Paravur, Kerala, manifests the bygone days of Kerala, when Jews were still a part of its society, and economy. Although, Jews were an integral part of Kerala's history for about two millennia, they started migrating en masse to their promised land, Israel, which was re-formed in 1948.
An excavation that was conducted within the premises of this synagogue, led to the discovery of an older synagogue, which existed here, before this one was built in 1615, conveying that an active Jewish settlement thrived here, even before the commissioning of this present synagogue.
This Jewish synagogue is a pure amalgamation of Jewish synagogue architecture, and the architecture of Kerala, and this is evident from the long passages, and Padipura (gate house from Kerala architecture) in this Jewish synagogue.
Then, the seat of the Rabbi (Bimah), and the place for the male worshipers, was the lower storey, while the inner part of the upper storey was meant for the female worshipers.
Following the en masse emigration of the Jews from Kerala, during the 20th century, this Jewish synagogue fell into an abandoned state. Later, this structure was renovated by @bennykuriakose_associates under the Muziris heritage project, and now, it is being maintained as a Jewish heritage museum, which exhibits the bygone era of Jews, who once resided in this neighborhood.
